SNACK TIME: Amazing Dad pancakes, guinea fowl for school lunch, Spence paints the town XXX red, a cool new beer party trick, "GOD DAMN GOOD" posole, and pics of Asians taking pics of food

- Picking up where Jim's Pancakes left off, Nathan Shields has begun blogging the pancake art he makes for his children. On Saipancakes, he posts pics of each batch of themed pancakes. A few of the many cool ones: bugs, dogs, dinosaurs and mythological monsters. The former math teacher has also made some educational flapjacks (above), like fractals, protozoa and mathematical constants. Nathan's kids are lucky. Maybe we'll invite ourselves over the Shields house for breakfast sometime.

- Mental Floss posted this article on what is actually being served in elementary school cafeterias around the world. France clearly wins with roast guinea fowl and vanilla flan on kid's lunch menus. U.S. and U.K. lunches seem to be hit-or-miss and the caboose of this train is the Eastern Bloc.

- Vice, never known for censoring itself, came to town to film a installment of their Munchies series with Amis chef Brad Spence. The crew follows Spence from his kitchen to Paesano's for sandwiches from Peter McAndrews, to Han Dynasty for Sichuan from Han Chiang and then back to Amis for a mortadella sandwich. With all the X-rated talk from the guys, the tamest thing about the vid is the probably sexy porno music playing while Spence makes his mortadella.

- While we're on the topic of badass, here's a vid of a cool old dude ever opening a beer with a chainsaw. The magic starts to happen around the 25-second mark.

- Emily Kohlhas from All Trees Have Roots posted this recipe for New Mexican posole. It's a fun read — she starts with why she decided to make the stew out of "an ancient bag of hominy sitting in my cupboard," and finishes with her professional opinion on the results: "SO GOD DAMN GOOD."

- Here's a single-serving site called Pictures of Asians Taking Pictures of Food. Before you get your pantaloons in a bunch, the inclusion of this site in Snack Time has been given the official Drew Lazor Seal of Approval. He is Asian so it is OK.
