Saveur's top 6 Philly picks

POSTED: Tuesday, August 7, 2012, 12:07 PM

Philadelphia is proving itself again and again as one of the country's best food towns. We at Meal Ticket already knew this, of course, but it's nice to get some national coverage once in a while! Yesterday's article in Saveur magazine highlighted six Philly-centric foods that you can't find anywhere else. If you are in town for a brief visit, moving away soon, or just love foodventures like us, taste something from this list ASAP.

Paesano Sandwich – Paesano's (multiple locations)

Beef brisket, roasted tomatoes, provolone, pepperocini, horseradish mayo, and a fried egg on a long Italian roll

Appollonia Doughnut – Federal Donuts (1219 S. 2nd St.)

Dusted with black pepper, cumin, cinnamon, orange blossoms, cocoa and clove

Housemade Burrata – Rittenhouse Tavern (251 S. 18th St.)

Mozzarella meets sweet cream, pulled to order

Root Beer – J&E Homemade Drinks (Hilltop Produce Stand at the Rittenhouse Square Farmer's Market)

Herbaceous, vaguely medicinal and naturally carbonated

Thai Coconut Gelato – Capogiro Gelato (multiple locations)

Exactly what it sounds like, lovely

Tilapia Burrito – Cucina Zapata Food Truck (mobile)

Crushed Cap'n Crunch breading, with red cabbage, pico de gallo, avocado and spicy peanut sauce
