Starr Commissary Revealed

POSTED: Tuesday, March 12, 2013, 1:30 PM

Tonight, Stephen Starr and STARR Events’ president Simon “Not Cowell” Powles host the first ever look-see into their brand spanking-new commissary on North Broad Street. For nearly a year, the redesigned space – close to a now-shuttered one-time drug rehabilitation center –  has been used as an 11,000 square foot kitchen that concentrates on off-site catering events and its restaurant affiliations with the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Grounds for Sculpture. The space also offers an intimate tasting room that can be rented out for private parties.

“The catering commissary serves as the primary kitchen and office space for Stephen STARR Events, not as a test kitchen as was rumored,” says STARR Events Creative Development VP, Morgan Bedore.
One of the fascinating things about the commissary - along with being a clearinghouse for all STARR Event stuff at the ARTS Ballroom at 1324 Locust and the customized parties at Tangerine at 232 Market - is the tasting room. Like STARR Events catering arm, the tasting room offers wealth of dishes from Starr’s various restaurant spaces as well as exclusive menu items unique to the catering division.

We're guessing that ham sandwiches and Jello aren't on the menu at this commissary.
