Starr's Route 6 opens next Thursday

UPDATE [14nov11]: Check out our photo sneak peek of Route 6.

It was way back in '08 that murmurs of a New England-themed oyster bar called Littleneck floated around town. Soon, that Stephen Starr seafooder comes to fruition, not as Littleneck but as Route 6, and not in the Angelina/Blue Angel space to which rumors attached the concept but in the new 600 North Broad building that will also house Marc Vetri's Alla Spina and already houses Joe Volpe's new ballroom, Vie.

Route 6, named for the highway that runs the length of Cape Cod all the way to Provincetown, Massachusetts, will seat more than 200 in two nautically decorated, cherrywood-scented dining rooms — a wood-burning oven and grill acts a focal point — plus a bar/lounge and a chef's counter with views into the open kitchen. Chef Anthony DiRienzo, who came to SRO via Michael Mina restaurants in San Fran and Vegas, will be rocking all the favorites from the New England coast: chowders, lobster rolls, crab cakes, clam bakes and fish fries. We can’t wait for the pie/cobbler-focused dessert menu. (If any slices stand up to the electric raspberry/pecan we had at Mabel's in Kennebunkport, Maine, last month, we'll be impressed.)

Forty wines and seasonal cocktail will lubricate crowds, but we're real interested in the beer program: Twenty bottles and six taps, one of which will spout Route 6 Ale, an unfiltered rye ESB crafted exclusively for the restaurant by New Hampshire's White Birch Brewing. Eventually, you'll be able to purchase the beer to go in custom 20-ounce bottles.

Starr is aiming for Thursday, Nov. 17 for the official opening, though their OpenTable site is only accepting rezzies from Monday, Nov. 20 on.

Does the picture represent the look/logo of the place? If so, rough, shit is ugly
