The Warwick becoming the Radisson Blu

POSTED: Friday, March 1, 2013, 10:51 AM

The Warwick (220 S. 17th St.) is the hotel to which we'd imagine silent film stars and steel tycoons would have repaired when Philadelphia was the nation's capital. (It opened in 1926, a couple decades late for that fantasy.) Through the years, the historic Rittenhouse hotel has retained a proud polish, and this spring, its lobby, corridors and 301 guest rooms will get getting a $17-million facelift as owner Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group converts the Warwick to its fresher, younger Radisson Blu brand. (Don't worry: The Warwick name will stay.) The hotel will stay open through the renovations, which are to be completed late this summer. No changes are planned for the hotel's three restaurants, the Prime Rib, Tavern 17 and the Coffee Bar.
