Win tix to Anthony Bourdain and Eric Ripert's Nov. 2 Merriam Theater show

Filed Under: Chef Salad | Food Events

Next Wednesday, Nov. 2, chefs, authors, TV stars and unabashed bros Anthony Bourdain and Eric Ripert are appearing at the Merriam Theater (250 S. Broad St.) for an evening of off-the-cuff culinary conversation and Q&A that will likely evolve into discussions of chefs as celebrity, boozing, cooking trends, stoner food and (we're sure of this last one) your girl Paula Deen. Tickets are going for, as one friend put it, "Radiohead prices," but Meal Ticket's got a pair that we're getting rid of for free. You want? Just leave a comment on this post with a funny, original and/or scathing answer to the following question:

If you spotted Bourdain and Ripert sitting at your local bar, what drinks would you buy for them — and WHY?

Submit your comment between now and 5 p.m. this Thursday, Oct. 27 to be eligible for the win. We'll select the best answer and alert the winner via email, so be sure you comment/register with an address you check frequently. Good luck! See y'all there.

The Berliner Weiss at Nodding head. It's a great Philadelphia rendition on a classic, rarely seen beer that's not bottled. I'd like to thing Philly can still show there are a few things to discover here.

Vieux Carres. It's classic yet modern. Boozy. Motherfucking delicious. And it's good for the franco and the -phile. It's layered and complex but is also chilled booze that you can slug if the need arises.

Mr. Bourdain gets a scotch and water, hold the scotch, because he's worthless when he gets liquored up. Mr. Ripert receives a glass of the house red to just to see his nose turn up.

For Tony, the most outlandish, ornate, girl drink on the menu. Little paper umbrellas, fire and pink straws preferred.

For Eric, a tall boy can of High Life, which he has to shotgun.

Why? Because I would love to see them drink both.

Bourdain: Sazeroot from Percy Street. Tasty, will knock him off his ass, plus Root is organic. The way he whales on Paula Deen and Rachel Ray for poisoning the general public, this would something he would approve.
Ripert: Straight shot of mezcal. He tries to come off as a debonair Frenchman, but you know there is a dark side waiting for the right worm to come his way.

They both get a Shackamaximum. Its local, in season and I think its one of the best beers we put out from the area. Just a good brew to represent philly as a beer city.

They've had the best of the best. I'd make them a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. No organic crap, just straight up grocery store peanut butter and jelly on white, not wheat.

They would get PBC's Harvest from the Hood from a bar a few blocks from where the hops are sourced. Seems worthy of a piece on his television program.

They would both get cement mixers. You may not remember a good drink, but you will most definitely remember the most disgusting f****** thing you've ever tasted. After that, hopefully some post-trauma bonding and some more palatable drinks to make up for the insult. I mean really, how many people do these guys meet, I want to be remembered.

Found this on Philadelphia Magazine's website and thought it to be the best for both of these chefs. "A serious beer drinker living too close to Victory Brewing Company’s bar is like David Duchovny living down the street from a whorehouse: fun, sure, but it’s not going to lead to anything good"

I'd tell them that they could buy me a sazerac. They're millionaires and dudes, why do I need to be spending my money on them? They seem reasonable enough, I'm sure they'd understand that.

I'm guessing the Bike Stop. A pitcher of Cosmopolitans.
