Wolf building's Underground Eats getting close

Back in January I wrote about Gary Reuben's Underground Arts basement theater in the Wolf building (12th and Callowhill) was gearing up for a restaurant addition called Underground Eats, run by GM Mike Staldi and producer Mike Thatcher and featuring a menu designed by drummer-turned-chef Tom Stalling. The space underwent its last formal inspection on Tuesday, and looks to open its doors within the next two weeks.

In addition to feeding the attendees of shows and events, Underground Eats will work as a standalone restaurant spot with 240 seats starting at happy hour each day. There will always be some form of entertainment going on during dinner — think a guitarist or pianist off the side of the large square bar. On the occasions where a show is taking place, from stand-up comedy Wednesdays to full-blown theatrical presentations (there are two stages at UA), cabaret seating at the café rounds will still be open and available, along with additional comfy chair and couch options, upping audience capacity to 500 in what will become a glorified living room. The last stage in developing the Underground Eats menu (some samples below) is the question of whether the bar will pour couture cocktails or be more of a shot-and-craft beer operation. Stay tuned.

- Olive tapaeade and garlic toast
- Shu Mai
- Voodoo shrimp
- Falafel
- Bacon and scallops
- Mac and cheese crock
- Stuffed mushrooms
- Spicy chicken sliders
- 3 way wings
- Hush puppies and fries
- Portabella mushroom veggie wrap
- Pulled pork sandwich
- Chicken breast sandwich
- Angus burger
- Baklava plate
- Filo fruit cup
- Tastycake bread pudding
