A move for Paesano's, a research trip for McAndrews
Next week, sandwich artiste Peter McAndrews heads to Sicily. Not for vacation, but for research for a Sicilian-flavored ristorante he has planned for January. "It'll be the only real Sicilian restaurant in town. I'm really excited about it," says the Modo Mio and Paesano's exec. He's not set on a name but likes Crescendo and 13, "actually a lucky number in Sicily, and I was born on Friday the 13th." Native New Yorker (and Siggi by blood)Â Damien Messina is already lined up as the forthcoming spot's chef; he and McAndrews met in Italy 15 years ago and have been friends since. Crescendo (or 13) will be housed in the space currently occupied by Paesano's, which will move two blocks down to the old Bebe's BBQ bricks. And that's not all in McAndrews news. The chef is also planning a pop-over to Naples to perfect his pizzaiola abilities. "Making pizza and bread is what I really love. Next year I want to open the best pizzeria in the city."
