Aug. 27: The Thirteenth Diet gets Ayurvedic with it

Daniel McLaughlin, who's been experimenting with a different diet during each month of 2010 to produce his fascinating blog The Thirteenth Diet (check out our April post), is drawing summer to close with an Ayurvedic feast scheduled for Friday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m. Ayur-whatta-what now? Let the quite-erudite McLaughlin explain:
Ayurveda is an Indian based diet, and a lot of what you eat is dictated by your "dosha" type. Dosha literally means "that which deteriorates," and there are three types: Vata, Kapha and Pitta. Vata is defined as "air and wind," Pitta as "fire," and Kapha is "water and earth. So in my best Captain Planet explanation of how all this works, if youÂ’re a fiery Pitta, you want to be eating more foods from the watery Kapha to keep your body in balance.
McLaughlin breaks down the ins and outs of the Ayurvedic diet in great detail on his blog. This Friday's four-course meal, which you can read about further here, is open to the public, and tix are available for $58. The dinner, which will take place on the garden roof of a model home at the luxury green living complex Bancroft Green (just off 16th and Bainbridge), can also be customized for vegetarians at a discounted price (enter the code "ayurveda" at checkout).

Every one of Daniel's 'Thirteenth Diet' feasts I've attended have not only been stellar, but each new one somehow impossibly tops the previous... - I'm drooling just thinking of how good this one's going to be!

Last month's raw dinner was exceptional... (and this coming from an avowed carni-, lacto-, pesca-vore!). I can't wait to hear the broadcast of it on A Chef's Table in September!
