Farewell to Resurrection Ale House's fried chicken

It’s gone. That twice-fried, slightly sweet, kinda spicy, honey-drizzled, German potato salad-accompanied, award-winning, three-order-limited, nationally praised plate of divinity otherwise known as the Fried Chicken at Resurrection Ale House (2425 Grays Ferry Ave.) is gone. Chef Joey Chmiko dropped the dish about a month ago to make room for new stuff in a bit of a revamp of the menu. New highlights include an ultra-decadent tagliatelle with fried duck egg, brown butter, sage and pine nuts; a rabbit sausage, egg and biscuit starter; and a roasted rabbit leg with beer-braised cabbage. If you are looking for a new star on the menu,  Resurrection’s Leigh Maida tells Meal Ticket that the roasted maitake mushroom with farro, caramelized fennel and a breadcrumb crust is doing its part to fill the chicken-shaped void in the hearts of the RAH faithful. The chicken does, however, make an occasional appearance as a special, and the Resurrection crew is certainly not ruling out its return in the future. (The Cliff Lee of poultry!) In other Resurrection news, they have a pretty sweet deal going on for New Year’s Eve.  Chmiko is cooking up a $50 four-course menu with an optional $28 beer pairing.  No reservations accepted. Just show up and pour one out for the pollo.

chicken for rabbit, duck and mushroom sounds like the chef decided that his culinary experimenting was more important than pleasing his customers- way to go.
