Friday: Support Team Jamaica by grubbing at Blue Bananas Caf

This Friday, April 17, South Street's Blue Bananas Caf (223 South St., 215-351-0113, bluebananascafe.com) is offering a ridiculously cheap $19 three-course meal as a fundraiser for Team Jamaica Bickle's participation in the 2009 Penn Relays, which run April 23-25. It'll cost $80,000 to feed, house and transport the athletes and staff from TJB, a non-profit that supports Jamaican athletes competing in America. (Jamaica was the first foreign nation to participate in the Penn Relays.) There are dinner seatings at 6, 8 and 10 p.m., giving you plenty of opportunities to eat well and help out some deserving athletes while you're at it.

After a first-course salad, it's your choice of entre (curry chicken, curry goat, jerk chicken, snapper, vegetarian option) and dessert (sweet potato pudding or rum cake). In the event Blue Bananas sells out completely, additional diners will be accommodated at Jamaican Jerk Hut (1436 South St., 215-545-8644).

For reservations, call Blue Bananas or e-mail Blane Stoddart at bfs69 @ verizon.net.
