Konstantinos Pitsillides of Kanella (1001 Spruce St.) — one of our favorite chefs with whom to chat — is next up to bat in Stephen Starr's pop-up restaurant series at Washington Square, the first installment of which featured Aimee Olexy of Talula's Table (check out Anthony Sica's recap). Pitsillides says he plans on cooking a Levantine-influenced menu for the three-day event, which'll run from Tuesday, July 27 to Thursday, July 29. The Levant is the name for the region directly east of the Mediterranean Sea, encompassing nations like Lebanon, Israel, Syria and Iraq; Pitsillides' native island of Cyprus is often lumped into this region, too, so the chef's quite familiar with these many-varied cuisines. He says he'll cook dishes like sautéed nettles with mushrooms and kefalograviera cheese; lamb pie with dates (an Iraqi staple); vine leaf-wrapped sardines (Lebanese); and fattoush, a fried-bread salad (Syrian). There'll be roughly nine or 10 appetizers (topping out at $11), and four mains that'll run you $19 to $24. Three desserts (if you've had Kanella's sweets before, you know you're gonna need to get dessert). The menu's not finalized just yet but we'll post it in full here when it is. SRO will begin taking reservations for the three-night run tomorrow, July 14, at 10 a.m. Call 215-592-7787. UPDATE [15july10]: Full menu after the jump.
