New happy hour at Bar 210 at Lacroix

Lacroix's Bar 210 (Rittenhouse Hotel, 210 W. Rittenhouse Square), which opened about a year back, has unveiled a happy hour deal they're running Monday to Friday from 5 to 7. Sommelier Eric Simonis has put together a selection of $6 cocktails, $5 wines and $4 beers, and chef de cuisine Jason Cichonski, who's been holding it down on the Square since Matt Levin's late-'08 departure, will offer complimentary hors d'oeuvres. Check out his current bar menu for an idea of what to expect.

The Rittenhouse slumps further and further behind the Four Seasons. I question the Rittenhouse Hotel 5 diamond property status.

In July we stayed at the hotel and the sommelier supplied the only 5 diamond touch. At Bar 210 we tried out happy hour and found a boisterous, budget minded crowd downing bargain drinks. The gracious staff were casting pearls before swine. It wasn't pretty or enjoyable to be around.

In the Lacroix dining room underwhelming, pricey and ill conceived dishes (served by a tipsy waiter)served up more proof of the <5 diamond status. The chef, seemingly sappy-green behind the ears, plated half a dozen culinary school experiments with just a single standout.

Our guest room was an 80's throwback except for the flat screens. Amenities that might pass as 5 diamond worthy in Tulsa chaff at Philadelphia prices.

Coincidentally at the bar across the park we chatted with a local couple who reminisced about the Chef Lacroix days. Apparently too much has changed.
