New menu at Novit� Bistro

Check Novit� Bistro chef Hassan Zanzoul's new menu after the jump. The six-month-old Medi/Moroccan BYO (1608 South St., 215-545-4665, novitabistro.com) has streamlined its approach a bit to play up the focus on traditional Moroccan dishes like housemade merguez sausage and a tagine with braised chicken, olives, potatoes and preserved lemon.

Appetizers

Shrimp

Jumbo shrimp and Tuscan white beans saut�ed with grape tomatoes, fresh sage and white wine�.10

Mussels

Mussels served with shallots in a fine herb, butter and white wine�.11

Scallops

Seared Diver Sea scallops with wild mushroom compote, sweet and sour balsamic reduction�.12

Calamari

Fried calamari with hot cherry peppers and balsamic reduction�.10

Merguez

Moroccan lamb sausage served with chick pea puree�.10

Gnocchi

House made potato dumplings with fresh tomato sauce, basil and mozzarella cheese�.9

Moroccan Salad

Red beets, potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, hard-boiled egg with olive oil vinaigrette�.9

Novita Salad

Tossed baby spinach, roasted red beets, gorgonzola, walnuts, fresh orange and citrus vinaigrette�.9

House Salad

Organic field greens, pear tomatoes, goat cheese fritters and citrus vinaigrette�.8

Ravioli

Square shaped ravioli filled with porcini and wild mushrooms served with a Demi-glace cream sauce�.14

Chicken

Thinly sliced breaded chicken served with a baby arugula, tomatoes, red onion salad with citrus vinaigrette�.14

Cornish Game Hen

Boneless spiced Cornish hen, pan roasted with escarole and white cannellini beans�.17

Moroccan Tagine

Braised chicken with green olives, potatoes and preserved lemon�.20

Fish

Pan seared Mahi Mahi served over roasted beets and saut�ed spinach with whole grain Dijon mustard sauce�.21

Braised beef short ribs served over herb mashed potatoes�.23

Homemade Moroccan lamb sausage and shrimp brochette marinated in charmoula served with couscous and vegetables�.22

They added merguez and kept the original tagine. how is that playing up the focus on Moroccan dishes?



I've eaten there once and won't go back - not because anything was awful (my pasta with clams was bland - that was the worst , and the cornish hen was way under salted.  the calamari was very good) but because i'd rather eat better things.



They STILL need to find themselves. Adding sausage isn't going to cut it.
