Nook Bakery and Coffee Bar aiming for next week

Michael Caro, who along with his wife Edna has moved Walnut Bridge Coffee from 2319 Walnut to the corner of 20th and Ludlow, says he hopes to have his new space open sometime in the next week. Nook Bakery and Coffee Bar, as it'll now be known, sits at at 1,600 square feet, close to twice the size of Walnut Bridge, which they ran for five years; it'll allow for more elbow room for customers in addition to an expanded in-house baking operation. Walnut Bridge used Illy brand coffee, but Caro says he'll now source beans from the Souderton-based One Village as well as New York's Gimme. They'll feature a "brew bar" where customers can choose from an international variety of unique single-origin beans that will be ground and brewed to order; for those in a hurry, though, Nook will also feature fresh French press fuel on hand. An elaborate four-stage water filtration system will allow Caro to tweak out municipal H2O for optimal brewing results. Edna has built up a reputation for her great bread puddings (vanilla, banana chocolate, strawberry, etc.) — those'll be available, as well as sweets like brownies and lemon bars. For lunch, they'll avoid going the sandwich route (Center City competition is too saturated, Caro believes) and focus on savory baked dishes like quiches, scones (bacon/chive/white cheddar is one option) and casseroles.

Sounds like it'll be a great shop. One Village Coffee is the best!
