Meal Ticket dropped by the friends/fam of Falafel Factory (32 S. 18th st., between Chestnut and Market) last night for a peek at Rob Rimeris' quick-service chickpea-ball slinger. The all-veg, mostly-takeout operation, which we first noted in December, officially opened this morning. Rimeris offers a small menu of specialty falafels (get yer balls fried or baked), plus fries, hummus and veggie dip. Everything's under 10 bucks. Their traditional falafel, featuring hummus, cukes, tomatoes, cabbage and a garlicky sauce, definitely got the job done, but it's FF's more irreverent varieties that will like catch the most attention. For example, check out the sweet/salty combo of the "Hawaiian," packed with pineapple chunks, carrots, cabbage and a teriyaki sauce.

Falafel Factory is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Fair...it's worth trying just to check out the 6 different types of sandwiches, but nothing to write home about. The sandwiches are on the small side and the layering of ingredients inside the pita could use some work - resulting in a very average falafel sandwich.

It doesn't hold up against Bitar's (http://www.bitars.com/) or Mama's (http://www.mamasvegetarian.com/), but it's a good around-the-corner-from-work vegetarian lunch option, at least in a crunch.

This falafel is the most delicate texture I've ever had - plump and light - Mama's is dry - not FF (what's your secret?). Love the combos - Greek was my favorite, my friend liked the BQ. I had a late lunch there today and it was a great value. Liked the clean atmosphere - nice addition to the neighborhood. Much success - I'll be back.

Finally a satisfying meal with no guilt! I chose the healthy option. Never had a baked Falafel before, surprisingly fulfilling! I already have a craving...

Definitely on the small side , Bitars and Mamas are both better, but I'll only be back out of convenience

I had the Hawaiian with baked falafel and it was awesome--totally different than just a traditional fried falafel and a great healthy option for vegetarians...I'll definitely be back!

[...] Factory has received good reviews from CityPaper’s MealTicket blog, and they have a solid half-dozen flavors, ranging from traditional and Greek to more off-beat [...]
