Red Zone taking over Cafe Spice space in Old City

Cafe Spice, which went down in Old City this past summer, is reopening as Red Zone, an upscale sports bar, next Friday, Jan. 21. Owner by Tim Lu (he owns/operates a Red Zone location in Burlington, N.J.) and partners Kyle Piasecki and Ben Kemp (nightlife consultants who recently helped reopen The Legendary Dobbs), Red Zone will feature somewhere in the realm of 30 and 40 televisions, playing all the Philly teams and everything in between (we're guessing they'll have the NFL Red Zone network); they hope to become the official Old City bar of the Philadelphia Union when the new MLS season starts up this spring. The menu is still being finalized; they're going to start out with six beers on tap and between 20 and 30 in bottles, plus beer cocktails and shareable punch bowls. In other fun news: If you want to say hi to Kemp at the bar, better stop by before Feb. 1 — that's when he's leaving to film the upcoming Focus Rally, an Amazing Race-esque challenge that involves teams of two driving around the country and doing wacky activities. Badass!

Ben Kemp and Kyle Piasecki helped work on the reopening of The Legendary Dobbs and did a fantastic job. There is no doubt in my mind they will help Jason and RedZone be equally as fantastic

R.I.P. Cafe Spice. Thank you for serving me that drink when I was underage.

pretty amazed they haven't been ceased and desisted by the NFL for that name...

Hope they don't become another nuisance bar like Cafe Spice was.
