Since we reported the move way back in August, restaurateur Robert Reilly has been renovating the former Michael's Cafe and Roselena's like a madman in preparation for his Salt & Pepper to move from Queen Village to East Passyunk. Stripped of its overbearing Victorian foppery, the space is ready for its close-up and soft-opens tonight as S&P's new home. Too bad it'll be dark; you should see the way light pours in from the first-floor windows like butterscotch, rippling across restored hardwood floors with cherry inlay and a front bar that will land its license soon. (Fingers crossed.) The bar area steps up though a latticed archway into the dove-gray dining room with a candle-filled fireplace and windows on two sides overlooking a pocket patio that makes us wish it was spring already. Butcher paper on the tables. Pressed tin on the ceilings. Second floor is home to a second dining room--the two-top by the bay window will be prime real estate--and the kitchen, where one-named chef Kouma is cooking on"The Warrior," a 10-burner, circa-1970 stove. His little-bit-of-everything menu will be taut tonight (scallops with winter squash, gnocchi, calendar-correct coq au vin), with the full bill of fare rolling out when they reopen after the holidays. Call for rezzies.

Happy to see the expansion, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't going to miss the more intimate space and (for me at least) the more convenient location. Fear not, Salt + Pepper, even a long walk on a cold Philly night can't keep us apart! Good Luck!
