Sticks and Stones opening the night before Thanksgiving?!
Our first mention of Nick Miglino's Sticks and Stones (1909 E. Passyunk Ave.) was back in February of 2008, predating the existence of Meal Ticket (!). Though there there have been some glimmers of progress in the nearly three years since that initial news, the doors of the P'yunk pub have yet to open. (The neon red street sign, however, always seems to be on.) Now - in November of 2010! - we're hearing that Miglino is dead-set on hosting a soft opening on Nov. 24, aka the Wednesday before Thanksgiving aka the biggest bar night of the year. Apparently the plan is to close for Turkey Day, then re-soft-open on Friday the 26th for the weekend, in support of a full opening on Monday, Nov. 29. Who's laughing now????????? Congrats Nick, Peter, Maria, Felicia and the the great new staff at S&S.
Checked out Sticks&Stones last night, pretty great beer list, heavy on draft locals with some Big Bottles (ranging from Conestoga Brewing Co to a brewery in Spain). Menu was eclectic, possibly too much so, ranging from burger and fries, mussels with 5 different stocks, sushi, nachos (disappointing) and various salads. Food cost too much for the portions though, especially the nachos (9.00 for less than half of what you get at the Royal Tavern or the POPE). ItÂ’s a block from my house, but unless the menu tightens up I canÂ’t see myself going there when I could go 4 blocks in either direction to SPTR or the POPE.
