I phoned Drew L. Mr. Meal Ticket while cabbing down Walnut on Wednesday to tell him that I spied signs going up and custom furnishings getting re-configured and heading into Strongbox Brett Perloffs new, kinda-priv bar with consultants Andrew Greenblatt and Wayne Schulick, etc. at ye old Monkey Bar spot. It didnt open on Wednesday as surmised in a recent Icepack. But Perloff mentioned theyd Twitter and send e-mails out when they were ready.

| The tables glow, apparently. |
I guess this means theyre ready:
We have set out to create a place a nightlife experience that does not yet exist in this city. At the outset, we realized that the most important element to accomplish the ultimate nightlife experience is not the size of the venue, the lights on the wall, or the complexity of the specialty cocktails. While all of those things are important and rest assured, we have payed close attention to layout, design and cocktails they are simply not the MOST important. The single most important factor is, without a doubtthe people. With that in mind, our venue will be hypersensitive when deciding who will pass through the door each night. While the standards may be higher on a Saturday than a Wednesday, know this: There will always be standards. We understand and champion the notion that our product is very much about who you are standing next to and who you can see from across the room. Its about knowing that when you arrive, you are at Philadelphias elite social ground zero. Its imperative to provide an atmosphere where our guests feel comfortable networking, flirting and celebrating because of the people they are doing so with. There will be no compromise. Sometimes luxury isnt about material things but rather the experience. And the luxury of this experience wont be about the label on the bottle you are drinking but rather the people you are drinking that bottle with.
Wow, this sounds great. Um, yea. Just what Philly needs.
Does Amorosi have to be such a self-aggrandizing tool?
"It’s about knowing that when you arrive, you are at Philadelphia’s elite social ground zero." Wow, I think I just barfed up my $15 cocktail into my brand new Coach bag.
I have never wanted a place to fail more then "Strongbox" aka gofuckyourselfbox. "Socail ground zero" what the fuck is that all about. Do they know that the economy is in the shits and places like this don't have a chance. What they should say is "We welcome everyone with money, come to my bar and spend it" . I never heard Stephen Starr or Danny Meyers say if you are ugly don't even try to walk in my restaurants. P.S. Can someone foward this to the Doochbag owners of the future Out of Business "Strongbox"
Wow. Los Angeles on the east coast. What a way to pretentiously separate the haves from the have nots. You think they'll have opening day for the Phillies there? I wanna go there and play some kick-face.
This place will be filled with tacky Garden Staters & Penn fratboys as soon as the owners realize (through lack of business) that if you have to tell people you are exclusive, you most certainly are not...
I think my 1.5 year old baby cousin wrote this press release....so cerebral. Can't wait to get turned down at the door because my affliction shirt wasn't the newest version hot off the screenprint/gold-leaf/tribal/half-assed-skull-design-complete-loser press. All that networking/flirting I could have done...bummer.
I had a girlfriend in seventh grade, and her nether region stunk. She had a strongbox. I always dreamed of opening a drinking establishment to commemorate her smoldering crotch, but alas my dream is dead. Thanks strongbox.
