Turney and Safran to unveil Barbuzzo next month

Marcie Turney and Valerie Safran, the Midtown Village power couple whose 13th Street mini-empire includes Lolita, Bindi, Grocery, Open House and Verde, are saying "July" for their latest, Barbuzzo (110 S. 13th St.), a Mediterranean-inspired eatery that'll mark their first foray into the liquor-licensed game. The 68-seater, which'll carry what they're calling a "Mediterranean farmhouse" feel — designed by the prolific URBANSPACEDEVELOPMENT, the space'll feature Provenance-salvaged touches like 350-year-old wood tabletops, grey Italian marble counters and wood that was once a harbor dock in Maryland. The restaurant will have a 14-seat kitchen counter and 12-seat bar; they'll be doing signature cocktails here, plus a boutique Euro wine list with 30 choices by the bottle and around a dozen available by the glass/quartino. Chef Turney plans on doing most everything in-house — meat curing and grinding, preserving, pickling, etc. — for the menu, which'll read like an eating tour of the Medi coast. A wood-burning oven will provide the power to do plenty of pizzas and roasted fare. We don't have the full menu just yet, but here are some highlights:
Wood oven-roasted sardines with piquillo pepper and preserved lemon
Burrata mozzarella with chicory, spiced walnuts, honey and fried rosemary
Squid ink fideo with Manila clams, cumin and chickpeas
Minted pea tagliatelle with braised pork, fava beans and pig cracklings
Pizza "Uovo" with spring onion, guanciale, fava leaves and farm egg
