What's going on for Belgian Independence Day?

Philly has long held "Little Brussels" status as the premier city in America to get your Belgian beer thing on, so it's not surprising that a number of our prized beer bars are throwing down to celebrate Belgian Independence Day tonight, July 21. A few highlights after jump. Know of any other goings-on? Leave a comment or email drew.lazor@citypaper.net. Devil's Den (1148 S. 11th St.) is knocking a dollar of Belgian and Belgian-style drafts tonight from 5 to 7: That include La Chouffe Houblon (so good!), Maredsous 8, Ommegang Witte, Omeegang Rare Vos and Duvel Green. The venerable Monk's (264 S. 16th St.) is tapping all sorts of goodies — between the front bar and back, they'll be pouring La Chouffe, Duvel Green, Maredsous 8 and four Belgian-styles from Ommegang: Pale Ale, Adoration, Tripel Perfection (love that stuff!) and Zuur, which is a blend of Liefmans Goudenband and the Cooperstown brewery's own sour brown ale. (All Ommegangs will be $5.50.) There'll also be various brewery reps in the house handing out free tees, hats, etc. Eulogy (136 Chestnut St.) will be running specials on all Duvel and Ommegang beers, and will also have T-shirts to give out. You can also peep a Belgian beer at Eulogy's sister bar Beneluxx (33 S. Third St.), which offers a brew (or wine), plus a cheese/chocolate sample, for five bucks from 5 to7. Speaking of sisters: Monk's hermana Belgian Cafe (2047 Green St.) will have plenty of brews from La Chouffe, Ommegang, Duvel and St. Bernardus on tap. Free Duvel glasses with the purchase of a draft. Reps will be on hand here, too, handing out shwag, and the kitchen also plans on putting out some Belg-inspired specials, including Provencal mussels, pan-seared filet with Ommegang Abbey/mushroom sauce and a Brussels-style street waffle with chocolate sauce, cream and berries. City Tap House (The Radian, 3925 Walnut St.) is doing $3 Ommegang Hennepin and $6 Duvel Green on draft. At  6p.m., they'll take Ommegang's Belgian Pale Ale as well as the aforementioned Zuur. Flights for 12 bucks. They'll also be running a raffle to win two tickets to Ommegang's "Belgium Comes to Cooperstown" event; the drawing will be at 9 p.m. Jose Pistola's (263 S. 15th St.) is holding its Belgian Independence celebration this Friday, July 23, instead of tonight. On that day they'll offer drafts from Ommegang, Mardedsous, Duvel and La Chouffe from lunchtime on; Belgian-themed food specials are also in the works.
