Cacia's bakery - their tomato pie's not too shabby either.
M, you got it! This is the OG Cacia's down on Ritner. Picked up some cannoli for friends there the night before Thanksgiving. It was the most amazingly South Philly thing ever when I ordered. Me: "Half a dozen cannoli, please?" 16-year-old counter girl: "Ricotta or chocolate?" Me: "I'll do three and three." 16-year-old counter girl: (to Matriarch in Apron) "We need three and three!" Matriach in Apron: (to Jolly Middle-Aged Italian Bakery Man) "Yo, three and three cannoli up front!" Jolly Middle-Aged Italian Bakery Man: (to 16-year-old Kitchen Boy) "Three and three, we need three and three!" 16-year-old Kitchen Boy: (to everyone) "What's that, you need three and three?"
I used to stop there on my way home from school when I was a kid. I know the place well. I'll have to grab a cannoli next time!
