With more celiac-friendly menu options popping up every day it's clear that living gluten-free doesn't mean resigning one's self to a life of food boredom. Wheat-allegic food folks, mark your calenders, on September 23 the 8th annual Appetite for Awareness is happening in Philly. Adam Erace has a thing or two to say about the modern Italian fare at Spiga

The dan-dan noodles from Han Dynasty can be yours with the help of Philadelphia Chef's Table.

There's been a whole lot of action on the opening and chef shuffling front. Here's a look at the day's restaurant happenings:

The Insider is reporting that Han Chiang is opening up a new location of Han Dynasty in Cherry Hill's Saw Mill Village, home to the original location of Sammy Chon's K-Town Barbecue and Gary's Gem Garden, the East Coast's largest complete rock shop.

Foobooz has the menu for U City's Ramen Bar, serving up 10 types of ramen starting shortly after Labor Day.

Eater's got the latest on Craft & Claw, the Old City spot focusing on, you guessed it, craft beer and seafood. Specials on all-you-can-eat crab commence after their September 20 opening.

Grub Street brings the pleasant news that the long empty East Girard former home of Hot Potato Cafe will soon become home to Lloyd, a laid-back whiskey bar.

And in Foobooz reported chef shufflage, we've got Andrew Brown leaving Opa for the Field House and Joe Chmiko is leaving Resurrection Ale House for New York and Rhett Veliner is stepping up as his replacement.

We may not have passed physics, but we do know a thing or two about happy hours, wurst happenings, and crabby dinners: all on today's Afternoon Snacks.

If it's Wednesday, you're probably either pining for last weekend's highlight reel or more than ready to get started on filling the next one. Well, we can't even understand the idea behind time travel, much less help you achieve it. But we can point you to happy hour at Twenty Manning Grill (261 S. 20th St.) tonight for a mini-escape that should smooth the way through Thursday. (And hey, that's practically Friday!) Their Summer Vacation Wednesdays feature a different destination each week; tonight, you're headed to Mexico. Drop in between 5 and 7 p.m. tonight, and $20 gets you a Luchador cocktail, grilled corn on the cob, and chicken nachos. Easier than all that futzing about with the flux capacitor, anyway.

August is National Sandwich Month and to end things on a high note, the good folks at Serious Eats have put together a mind blowingly comprehensive guide to sandwich styles. Of course, being sandwich savvy Philadelphians we wanted to see where they came in on three specifics: hoagies, cheesesteaks and roast pork.

A garden overrun with squash, tomatoes and melons is the kind of problem that only happens in August. And whether or not you'd like to admit it, these late summer goods are going to be a distant memory sooner rather than later. But maybe they don't have to be. This Saturday at 10 a.m. The Dirt Factory (4308 Market St.) is hosting a Preserving the Harvest workshop where gardeners (and farmers' market shoppers) can learn how to make their summer haul last well into the winter. Philadelphia Master Gardener Jessica S. Herwick will be on hand to teach willing novices and seasoned canners the finer points of summer produce preservation. As usual, workshops at The Dirt Factory are free, just stock up on those Mason jars and RSVP to sustainability@universitycity.org

Happy hour-ers please be advised: the last night to enjoy Center City Sips is happening tonight. So if you're in the market for $5 cocktails, $4 wine, $3 beer and half off small bites be sure to get yourself out of the office by 5 p.m. If you're planning one last Sips hurrah, we'd suggest making your over to Fish (1234 Locust St.) for smoked marlin tacos,  Boilermaker (216 S. 11th St.) because where else can you get a St. Germain Cocktail and hot dog,  and rounding out the evening in the lovely garden of M Restaurant (231 S 8th St.) for pistachio duck confit terrine and garden gazpacho.

On September 13, Jose Garces' JG Domestic (2929 Arch St.) is hosting a sweet send off to summer in conjunction with Bucks County's Luna Farms. The 10 acre farm provides much of the produce for the Garces Group's Philadelphia and Atlantic City restaurants. For $65 you'll get a taste of all of the usual end of summer suspects (think tomatoes, melons, squash) worked into a menu designed by Garces and Luna farm manager Alex McCracken.

If you can't make it out next Thursday you can get your hands on Luna Farms' late summer offerings on Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the JG Domestic Farm Cart where there's loads of local produce, pies and promises of cider come fall.

Note: Frida Garza is spending the rest of her summer on the trail of Philly’s weirdest foods. This time around, the PB&J Hoagie from Yumtown USA.

If you’re a Clark Park regular, you’ve probably seen this overly colorful giant roaming the weekly farmers market. Every Saturday, Yumtown, USA (a food truck that couldn’t be more blatant about its yumminess) parks up and throws down some of the best locally-sourced food around. Their inventive style shines through on their type-set menu (Fried Mac n’ Cheese, anyone?), but no item better emulates their style than their PB&J Hoagie

The PB&J Hoagie isn’t exactly self-explanatory. It’s essentially a pork sandwich, made with pork belly that is first braised with apple cider and mustard seeds. Once the braising is over and the pork has chilled, it’s grilled crisp and served on toasted baguette. Wondering where the PB&J come in? The bread is slathered with cranberry jam and pumpkin butter. A medley of flavors, to be sure, but it works. And, in keeping with Yumtown’s be-kind-and-eat-local philosophy, all the ingredients are local. Feeling exotic? Order the hoagie with fried green plantains. Sadly, those don’t come from this area code.
