After ten years in West Philly, The Green Line Cafe is taking over the Cafe Loftus space at 15th and Moravian Streets. The Green Line folks aren't planning on too many changes in the Loftus space, the biggest being a switch over to organic and fair-trade coffees from Equal Exchange. Look for the Green Line takeover beginning October 1st.
In other West Philly coffee happenings, according to a tipster HubBub, the big red coffee selling truck that sets up shop on 38th between Locust and Spruce is opening up a brick-and-mortar location at 17th and Arch.
Wondering what Meal Ticket godfather Drew Lazor has been up to since his departure a few months back? Well, it appears as though he's taken up a bit of modeling to supplement his career in food writing.
Check out his fall fashion spread over at Philly Thrillist. Keen observers will notice that Lazor is strutting his stuff at Art in the Age, because, well, there has to be some sort of food and drink angle, right? Now, we're just wondering about the lack of Art in the Age cocktail accessorizing in this particular shoot.
We know it's only Monday and the weekend seems like a world away but it's worth a mention that American Sardine Bar (1800 Federal St.) is hosting its Second Annual Sausage Fest this Saturday.
Beginning at 4 p.m. ASB will be serving up Oktoberfest brews and an all sausage menu from thirteen contributing restaurants. You can look forward to encased meats from Rittenhouse Tavern, 943, Little Fish, Ela, Stateside, Blue Belly BBQ, David Katz, Studio Kitchen, La Calaca Feliz and Le Virtu as well as a vegetable-based link from Vedge.

The soon to open Ralic's seafood joint on South Street is getting some seriously tentacled signage.
Craig Laban hoists three bells upon the newly revamped Le Bec.
Frequent Meal Ticket readers know that around here our weekends generally consist of many beers, some cool shows and plenty of exciting eats to make for Notes from the Weekend fodder.
This weekend we're going to be going in a slightly different direction and heading down to Atlantic City for a three day health and fitness fest. Seriously. Aside from rubbing elbows with lifestyle celebs like Jillian Michaels and Michael Phelps we're going to be checking out the latest in the world of healthy dining and nutrition i.e. sampling all of the protein bars and juices that we can get our hands on and perhaps even taking a Brazilian Butt Lift class.
Tune in on Monday to hear all about our totally out of character but sure to be a blast healthy weekend in AC.
No, you're not seeing wrong. That is an octopus bursting forth from the second-floor balcony at Dave Ralic's forthcoming fish joint, one long, puckered chocolate tentacle dangling a sign over South Street. Designed by Burlington-based Bieling's, known for their amusement ride artwork, the curious eight-armed invertebrate has been approved by all the proper channels and is already under construction. Ralic says the restaurant, still unnamed, should be ready to go by November.
On the one-last-BBQ front, Asian-Latin mashup Chifa (707 Chestnut St.) has one in store for this weekend that should be great. The meal is $35 a pop (alcoholic beverages are pay-as-you-go) and, it being a BBQ and all, will be a laid-back, all-you-can-eat affair. The menu includes salads, sides, ceviche, humitas, and housemade pickles and kimchi, in addition to carving stations featuring Asian BBQ pork shoulder, black pepper soy-glazed beef ribs, and Korean BBQ chicken—plus all the steamed buns and tortillas you’ll need to gather all the deliciousness into one monster hand-held treat. (Just a suggestion! But no, seriously, do it.) The party goes down this Sunday, Sept. 23rd, starting at 4:30 p.m., and while there are a still few slots left, you should call ahead for reservations.
If you’re still concerned you won’t be able to get enough encased meat into your system during this Oktoberfest season, you’ll be relieved to know that today is the first day of Sausage Fest at Standard Tap (901 N. 2nd St.). The menu is lengthy and at times so out-of-control delicious-sounding that it almost seems like a cheap shot. Take the scotch egg, for instance: Deep-fried? Chorizo-wrapped? Bacon-onion butter? Come ON. Or the “mixed bag” link of various game with jalapeno and cheddar, “wrapped in sweet custard toast, served with maple syrup”? We’re not even entirely sure what that means, except that it’s making us feel all funny. Our pals at uwishunu have the full menu, which is available at the Tap now through Thursday, September 27th.
Finally, some weekend reminders: Sly Fox’s Can Jam takes place this Saturday in Pottstown; the NFCA’s gluten-free carnival Appetite for Awareness is on Sunday; and here are the details on Saturday’s Oktoberfest street festival outside of Frankford Hall (along with Brauhaus Schmitz’s upcoming collaborative meal on Monday, which you can still buy tickets for here).
It appears as though we're not going to be able to emerge from the Guy Fieri Flavor Town vortex today. In our second round of Fieri-related news, our favorite bleached hair-wrist band wearer has penned the intro for Smash Mouth's upcoming cookbook. Yes, as in the "Walkin' on the Sun" and "Can't Get Enough of You, Baby" Smash Mouth.
Smash Mouth: Recipes from the Road: a Rock 'n Roll Cookbook is set for an October release from Seapoint Books. No recipes have leaked yet but the back cover of the book is emblazoned with raves from Michael Symon, Sammy Hagar and Michel Richard. We haven't gotten a look at the recipes yet but the folks over at Uproxx have put together a few Smash Mouth inspired dishes including "Walking On the Sunny-Side Up Eggs" and "Can't Get Enough of You, Baby Back Ribs."
This weekend Craig Laban is dropping his thoughts on the revamped Le Bec Fin. In February Laban dealt the faded Le Bec a heartbreaking two-bell write up, calling out poor service and a fly in the cheese cart.
Early reports on the Le Bec 2.0 have been mixed. Philadelphia Magazine's Trey Popp was impressed with the transformation, leaving his meal at Le Bec feeling "truly and fabulously rich" while our own Adam Erace found flaws in the service and fabulousness in the foie gras.
Laban's bombshell drops tomorrow morning online. Have you been to Le Bec? We're taking bell count predictions in the comments section.
Since we've already got The Cheesecake Factory on the brain, we'd like to bring your attention to the brave souls over at Serious Eats set out to see how Guy Fieri's newly opened American Kitchen and Bar fares compared to Cheesecake. According to our buddies at SE, The Times Square mega restaurant is serving up nothing but overpriced ridiculousness.
The no forks needed menu options include Vegas Fries, Buffalo Bleu-Sabi Ain't No Thing Butta Chicken Wings, middling fried ice cream, Slammin' Jammin' Chicken Parm, Guy-talian Nachos and a menu of custom-brewed beers that are probably the best options at this so-called portal to Flavor Town.
