Closings
This weekend, Katie Cavuto-Boyle announced via email that she plans on closing Healthy Bites to Go (2521 Christian St.), the G-Ho café she opened two Februarys ago. The instructor, writer and educator will shut the doors for good on Sunday, March 18 (lots of sales/discounts leading up to this), as she plans on focusing her energies on nutritional consulting, catering and cooking classes. (The space will still be used for classes and meal delivery.) She will also continue to contribute to wellness outlets like Food Network's Healthy Eats and Philly Mag's Be Well Philly and is working on a cookbook.
As former G-Ho residents, we tip our hats to Cavuto-Boyle for putting in two good years in one tough retail location, on the sparser side of Grays Ferry in the shadow of the Trigen plant that looks like Arkham Asylum.

The smoke is still clearing on what exactly happened last weekend at Little Bar, Eighth and Fitzwater’s beardo live venue and drinkery, but somewhere between Saturday night and Sunday morning, PVP, the crew behind Little Bar’s live bookings, quit, and Michael D'Addesi closed the bar for good. While PVP is currently moving its shows to Teri's (where it will book permanently) and JR's, D'Adessi contacted me to say that he's getting out of the bar biz to attend law school in North Carolina, that all pending shows are cancelled and that "the new tenants are going in the neighborhood bar/restaurant direction, so no more music venue." He will be the landlord of the new restaurant/bar through a local agent. He wouldn’t say who it was or where it was the new tenants were from. Stay tuned.
Roost (4529 Springfield Ave.), the fried chicken-and-fixins concept from Mau Daigle and Annie Baum-Stein of West Philly’s Milk & Honey Market, is in hibernation. “We've closed the shop, but we're hoping to reopen in a more suitable location," Baum-Stein says. Where Roost will resurface is TBD, but the couple is scouting real estate in Center City and on Drexel's campus, something larger than its former digs, which still currently doubles at the Milk & Honey commissary. (Chef Jordan Miller tells Meal Ticket he'll soon be cooking at Black Eyed Susan's on LBI.) Whereas Roost 1.0 was takeout only, "We hope to include seating at the new location," a la Rotisseur. We’ll be among the first in line.
Artisan Boulanger Patissier, pastry purveyor and longtime object of Meal Ticket affection, is moving out of the 12th and Morris space it's occupied for more than 10 years. Cue the anguished wails of croissant devotees all up and down East Passyunk. Chill, chill! Owners Amanda and Andre Chin aren't going far — only about three blocks to the former home of Nino's pasta shop (1218 Mifflin St.). "[The space] is much, much bigger than this," explains Amanda, who cited landlord issues for the reason behind the move. "We’ll be able to do a lot more food, sandwiches and things." Mark your calendars for April; Artisan should be all settled and baking in their new digs by then.
CP contributor Brion Shreffler shares this photo of the Pho 75 outpost at 1022 Race — apparently it's been papered up for about a month now. Hearing the national Viet chain, which also has locations in South Philly (1122 Washington Ave.) and Northeast Philly (823 Adams Ave.), decided not to renew its lease in C-Town. The space, bigger than it looks from the street, should turn over to a new tenant soon. Will keep you posted.
UPDATE: Our Chinatown source confirms that Nan Zhou Hand Drawn Noodle House, nearby at 927 Race, will be moving into the Pho 75 space by this spring.
Evan Inatome tells Meal Ticket he plans to move his Elixr Coffee, which has been open at 207 S. 15th Street for about a year, to a vacant storefront at Walnut and Sydenham — a part of the old Susanna Foo space left unoccupied by Chipotle. He's got a good reason, too: The building he's in is coming down. Metro Commercial Real Estate's Steven Gartner, who's overseeing the multi-level, glass-facaded building proposed for the intersection (here are two mockups of the plans), is not sharing much in terms of project details or timeline yet, but Inatome says he hopes to be out of his current café and brewing in his new one by Memorial Day. "It's at least 50 percent bigger," says Inatome of Elixr's soon-to-be new home, which will have much less direct foot traffic, allowing for a chill al fresco area. In terms of coffee, he plans on getting "even nerdier" with the extra room, bringing in a wider diversity of tools and equipment.
Center City's modern Jewish deli Delicatessen (703 Chestnut St.), which opened about two years back, closed up shop for good yesterday, reports owner Michael Spector. A true bummer for anyone who was a fan of their pastrami and corned beef and bubby-fied second floor, to say nothing of chef Ali Waks' many creative diversions (heart you, pumpkin kugel). No word at the moment of the crew's next move or who might be moving into the Seventh-and-Chestnut space next, but we'll keep you posted.

Walking aound this weekend and discovered that Gaja Gaja (627 South St.) has paper in its windows. Phone seems to be disconnected, too. The combo Japanese/Korean spot had a pretty decent run, replacing a Wasabi House location way back in 2007. This eastern stretch of South, meanwhile, is rife with activity — Old City's European Republic is working on its second location at 602 South; signage is up at the suburban-based New York Bagel Cafe & Deli, which is opening a branch at 514 South, next to Manny Brown's; and Jersey Shore transplant Paul's Idaho Potatoes is moving in a block down at 429 South.
Cheers to the Meal Ticket tipster who passed along this snap of activity in the former Snow White Diner at 19th and Chestnut — looks like Eyal Aranya and Yoni Nadav, who opened Burger.Org at 326 South Street this past spring, are moving into Center City with their organic, glatt kosher fast-casual concept. No word on timeline just yet but we'll keep you posted. This news also means the official end of the Snow White brand in Philadelphia — the long-running Old City location (200 Market St.) was converted into Revolution House, which opened in June. Pour one out!
