Oh man, this post is reason why I should never read Meal Ticket on an empty stomach...
I was totally coveting these about two hours ago.

Balance and symmetry: dividing lines are clean and even Color infusion and definition: the contrast between the whiteness of foam and the darkness of the crema. and the intention of the design is obvious and clear Use of space: the design fills the cup in an appropriate and pleasant way. The design neither crowds the cup, nor leaves it feeling empty or unfinished. there is harmony between the size of the cup and the size of the design. Overall impression: drink is free of spill marks and cup is appropriately full of liquid. General aesthetic appeal and subjective appreciation.

Jean-Luc Fanny's Café L'aube, which the Ivory Coast native opened at 1512 South close to two years ago, is growing north, with a second location at 1631 Wallace Street. Its tentative opening is slated for "summer 2010." (Hey, that's right now!) More details soon; in the meantime, read Trey Popp's March 2009 rave about Fanny's specialty. Crepe lovers of Fairmount, rejoice! (h/t @FairmountNews) UPDATE [3:48 p.m.]: Just touched base with Fanny to grab a couple more details. This new space will be two rooms, and bigger than original. Same exact approach as the original café, with the exception of the waffles here they'll be served Liege-style, which is denser/chewier than the Brussels style he presses on South. Fanny is aiming for an August 15 opening.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CAFE FACADE WILL NOT BE THE GREEN CURRENTLY VISIBLE! A TRUE MIX UP IN PAINT COLOR! I JUST SPOKE TO THE OWNER AND THE INSIDE LOOKS BEAUTIFUL!
Thank god I won't have to go to Mugshots anymore.

Just a second to the earlier review -- this is a complete gem of a cafe. The crepes and waffles are made to perfection, and, coupled with the coffee roasted in house, quickly becomes addictive. I couldn't be happier to see it opening in a neighborhood like East Fairmount!

Mike and Edna are the best!!! I miss being so close to Walnut Bridge Coffee House, and can't wait to go by for Edna's berry muffins. Everything they make is delicious.
My favorite iced coffee of all time, ALL TIME. And their pecan coffee cake is quickly becoming my favorite baked good as well.
No comment on the coffee yet, but I had a spelt cranberry muffin here that was off the chain.

I know it's already been said but the muffins here are amaaazing. My "go-to" is the whole wheat fig but I just had a 1/2 whole wheat peach this morning and now I have to recalculate my rankings.

Chhaya Café is the name of the biz taking over what was Le Petite Croissant at 1823 E. Passyunk Avenue. During the week, they'll operate as a coffee house, serving sandwiches, salads, fresh-baked bready fare and some unique waffle preparations spicy cornbread, a pulled pork-topped option and black-and-white marble cake waffles are just three examples. On weekends, owner Brett Shangold says they'll serve Saturday and Sunday brunch, working off a menu that'll feature their waffles in addition to other brunch dishes. Friday and Saturday nights, they'll do cichetti for dinner that's the Venetian small-plate service we first caught wind of this past winter thanks to Andrea Luca Rossi of Rittenhouse's Cichetteria 19. No solid opening date just yet but we'll update here as we learn more. UPDATE [13july10]: Chhaya hopes to open its doors in the first week of August, according to Shangold.
