Stopped into the awesome Bodhi Coffee (410 S. Second St.) just now and ran into Evan Inatome (right), who is in the early stages of setting up a café called Elixr in the long-vacant space that was last Hausbrandt (207 S. 15th St.). He was hooking up with some barista buddies to host an informal "cupping" (coffee tasting) for three international varietals from the lauded Chicago supplier Intelligentsia, whose roasts he'll use at the shop. (For the record, Bodhi rocks Stumptown.) The space is in good shape, Inatome says, but he plans on making a number of cosmetic changes; he hasn't landed on a food/baked-good approach just yet. Opening should be in the next few months. Inatome's brother-in-law is Eagles O-lineman and food freak Winston Justice (check out this vid of #74 making maki with Zama Tanaka), who will be involved with the café, particularly in a charitable sense — for example, Inatome and Justice plan on launching a bottled water line to be carried at Elixr, the sales of which will benefit clean-water initiatives in countries like Haiti.

It's so cool to see intelligentsia coffee become more popular in other cities outside of Chicago.

Chef David Ansill, whose food has been a hit since he landed at Ladder 15 (1528 Sansom St.) earlier this year, has conceived a special "NFL tailgate menu" that will launch with the beginning of the NFL season on Sunday, Sept. 12 (the Birds will be hosting the Packers for Week 1). Management says that pricing has not been officially set just yet for the grub, but you can peep a sample menu of Ansill's ideas after the jump — a flaky biscuit-topped salmon pot pie sounds a little more appealing than Tostitos Scoops and lukewarm queso on the Ikea couch at your boy's dirty apartment, does it not? One thing in particular that caught our eye — with a week's notice, Ladder will roast an entire game-day pig for your crew of 10 or more. If you've had Ansill's Euro barbecue before, you know this is a good news.

This just made my night and possibly the entire football season since the Eagles will have their work cut out for them. Pork to the rescue.

In honor of the USA's most excellent 1-0 World Cup win over the Algerian woman slappers national team, the Stumptown-brewing Bodhi Coffee (410 S. Second St.) is discounting all Americanos by half for the duration of our boys' run. Landon is like YES I WILL SLIDE TOWARD THIS DEAL BECAUSE THAT IS A GREAT VALUE!

A Facebook page — featuring the brilliant, brilliant mockup you see above — recently appeared advocating for Citizens Bank Park to institute a Tastykake race akin to the Klement's sausage race tradition at the Milwaukee Brewers' Miller Park. Do you think Phillies face would embrace such a kitschy addition to our seven-inning stretch? And do you think Tasty Baking Co. and the Phils' organization would go for such a thing? For a bit of context on how Philly tends to embrace such gimmickry: During the Phillies' '08 World Series season, CBP rolled out a mock sausage race — featuring Hatfield hot dogs — in the NLDS against the Brewers. It ended in near-bloodshed — the Phanatic incapacitated all three wiener competitors en route to illegal victory, and there was even an ominous appearance from Randall Simon, the former Pirates infelder who got in trouble in 2003 for hitting Guido (the Italian sausage) in the head with a bat:

This should definitely happen! I think the fans would embrace it, but then jeer and throw bottles at the loser of the race

Yes yes yes!!! I will wear the krimpet costume! This idea is genius!

only if it's as hysterical as the hot dog race above!

This would be fantastic. I think this would be a fun thing to see the fans and the children would really get into this.

Yes, the race would be a hoot!

Genius! Why didn't somebody think of this sooner? I hope they look exactly like the prototypes!

... where they're offering The Broad Street Bully, marinated chicken, sweet potato, barbecue sauce and cheddar cheese on black Russian bread. (Remember when the cheesemongers put together Hillary- and Barack-themed sandwiches in '08?) The Stanley Cup Finals kick off this Saturday at 8 p.m. Go Flyers!

I don't even know what black Russian bread is, but I still want one. This mean-looking sandwich is definitely worthy of the title.

Came, saw and conquered. It was delicious and not as much of a belly bully as it looks.

The former Eagles coach will be pouring his wines at the Morris Arboretum next Thursday, necessitating this awesome Photoshop. Still not nearly as horrible as our Top Chef/Kill Bill hatchet job.

If you weren't lucky enough to score a ticket to the Phils' home opener today (first pitch was at 3:05 p.m.), head over to Bridget Foy's (200 South St.) to cheer on the boys and catch a deal. Starting today and continuing throughout the season, BF's will offer a hot dog and a select beer for $8 during all Phillies home games. And this ain't no generic wiener on a roll: It's the South Philly Dog (rabe, hot peppers, provolone), the winner of the tasting poll held by Aramark and Citizens Bank Park searching for the venue's signature hot dog. Today and today only, BF's will offer all three hot dogs that were in contention as part of the $8 deal. If you can't make up your mind, order a sampler for $15.

Courtesy of Keith Primeau

Flyers great Keith Primeau checked in to let us know that his Bain's Deli location, on the corner of Broad and Lombard, officially opened for business yesterday. He was offering a 50 percent discount yesterday; today's he's doing 40 percent off, tomorrow 30, through 10 percent off on Friday. Check our December post for some background info on the spot.

Such a seductive pose

Stadium beers are horrifyingly expensive, and baseball games are long, dry endeavors. Cooler Fun LLC feels your pain, and offers up their solution: The Beerbelly. Composed of a polyurethane bladder that fits inside a neoprene sling, the Beerbelly is designed to be filled with up to 80 oz. of your hot or cold beverage of choice and worn under clothing. Protruding from the whole thing is a hose (with valve flow control) that dispenses the illicit liquid.

Beerbelly's Web site assures us that this is indeed a real product, and their blog backs it up with pics of folks enjoying their strap-on guts at games, concerts and even in their offices.

At $34.95 for the basic model, we can see this paying for itself in just one overpriced-beer event!

For ladies who can't embrace the drunk-while-preggers look, there's also The Wine Rack, a sports bra that holds an entire bottle of vino. We'll let you click over to see the photos of that special invention.
