Year of the snake? 2013 is looking more and more like year of the pizza to us at least. A few weeks back we brought you the news of Pizzeria Vetri opening up on Callowhill. Then, of course, there's the stellar Gennaro's Tomato Pie that opened up in South Philly just after the new year. And we can't forget about Bufad, the wood-fired pizza joint brought to you by the owners of Prohibition Taproom.

Now it appears that there is more slice action in our future. Foobooz is reporting that the Tria crew is taking over the old Rum Bar space at 20th and Walnut and transforming it into Tria Taproom, a concept focusing on pizza and beer aiming for an April opening. And if that wasn't enough pie for ya, the Insider is saying that Zavino is looking west for a second location, moving in at 3200 Chestnut St.

Pending next week's inspection, March 1 should see the opening of Breezy's Cafe (2011 Reed St.), the latest sign of vitality in the emerging Point Breeze 'hood. Since coming to Philly for art school in 2003, owner Kristin Wolak has lived in several different parts of the city, but hearts P.B. best; she lives at 22nd and Reed and hopes her cafe will be "a meeting place for the longtime residents and newcomers to get to know each other, over great sandwiches."

Local, organic meats will grace those between-bread options--think grass-fed cheesesteaks, hot roast beef with house-made ranch, an Italian hoagie for 2013--but Wolack, a vegetarian, promises meat-free choices as well, like the Kennett Square mushroom melt on a pretzel roll. Add to the soups and chili for lunch and dinner, pastries from nearby bakery the Sweet Life and coffee from Fonseca, a locally based fair-trade co-op.

Ten-seat Breezy's will be open 8:30 to 8:30 Tuesday through Saturday and 8:30 to 3:30 on Sundays. Check out the full menu after the jump and their social media here and here.

First off, happy Valentine's Day from Meal Ticket. In place of a wilted gas station bouquet or a Whitman's Sampler we're bringing you something a little sweeter, in other words, ice cream.

Our favorite ice cream impresarios, Little Baby's Ice Cream, are looking west to Cedar Park, bringing hand-made, small-batch, super-premium Philadelphia-style ice cream and non-dairy and vegan frozen desserts (read: scoops of bourbon bourbon vanilla, Earl Grey sriracha and vegan speculoos) as well as cookies and milkshakes to the proud denizens of West Philly.

Nothing has been set in stone (cooler? coffin freezer?) but riding on the whims of the approval of the neighborhood and the ice cream loving city of Philadelphia, we've got our fingers crossed that the opening of Little Baby's Ice Cream Cedar Park Embassy is going to be happening sometime in the spring.

If you'd like to show a little support for this infinitely noble cause head on over to the Calvary Community Center on February 21 at 7:15 p.m. and scream for ice cream or at least hum the Mister Softee jingle.

In local news the Old City Civic association is reporting that the long awaited Trust Market is finally becoming a reality. There have been rumors of this high-end market moving into the stately Trust Building at the corner of 3rd and Arch for quite a while now and OCCA is promising to share details as they emerge. So what does this mean for us? Another lunch option for Team Meal Ticket.

Unlike New York, L.A. and Chengdu, Philadelphia doesn't really have all that many options for Sichuan fare, aside, of course from the always awesome Han Dynasty. While strolling down Baltimore Avenue earlier in the week Meal Ticket stumbled upon Chili Szechuan (4626 Baltimore Ave.), the latest addition to the city's peppercorn and chile-laden dining scene.

Save for a bit of lorem ipsum on the website, it looks like Chili Szechuan is serving up all of our favorites including mapo tofu, cumin lamb and dry pepper chicken along with some unfamiliar items like tofu pudding and Dongpo braised pork belly.

Of course, if spice isn't your thing, it's worth a mention that Chili Szechuan has a menu of Americanized Chinese fare for the faint of heart.

Way back in May of 2011 we reported on the upcoming opening of Corner Foodery(1710-12 Sansom St.) and it looks like they're opening up shop tomorrow. Foobooz swung by earlier this afternoon and is reporting that beer shelves are currently being stocked in preparation for a Thursday morning opening.

Along with a stellar beer selection (drink in/take out) the new location is going to be offering up sandwiches and cured meat courtesy of The Corner's John Taus.

Man, modern news works fast. Marky Marc dropped the Twitter bomb yesterday that he's opening a pizzeria at 1939 Callowhill, and we've got a few things to add from the man himself: "It's in the Granary building ... a small 1400 [square foot] place with a liquor license," he says. "We'll be serving pizzas and some salads. Very small menu...just great products. Really fun." Asked whether the pies would be crackly crisp Osteria-style or the doughier Neapolitan variety, he responded, "Osteria-type but with a little different dough." Different in that we won't eat three in one sitting? Guess we'll see.

Looks like Jersey isn't the only place getting a new Vetri joint. According to this twitpic Vetri is opening a pizzeria at 1939 Callowhill right around the corner from the Whole Foods and the Barnes. If the pizzas at Osteria (we're looking at you, Lombarda) are any indication, Pizzeria Vetri is going to be turning out some serious pies.

Well, we didn't make it to the shit show fascinating human experiment known as Wing Bowl but The Insider did. He's reporting that a dark horse dubbed "The Bear" reigned victorious consuming 287 wings in a mere half hour. Kudos to you, Bear.

We've been psyched about the upcoming opening of Royal Sushi & Izakaya for a while and now Foobooz is confirming that they teaming up with Brooklyn Brewery and making their debut at this year's Brewer's Plate on March 10th.

There's no arguing that the pizza at Pizza Brain is all around awesome and the pizza-museum makes the experience even better but if you'd like to enjoy a Forbes Waggensense or Wendy Wedgeworth in the comfort of your own home, Grub is reporting that the Brain is now delivering

When Cafe Clave, the Cuban coffee shop at 4205 Locust Street shuttered back in December (under seamy circumstances) neighbors mourned the loss of not only good coffee and stand out Cuban sandwiches but also a neighborhood institution, a building that had been in the same family since the 1960s.

West Philly Local is reporting that neighborhood couple Kate Steenstra and Yasser Aiq are taking over the space and reinventing it into Cafe Renata. Soft opening next week, locals can look forward to coffee and cafe fare with South American and Mediterranean accents.
