Ever since that one-of-a-kind "sign" went up, we knew it wouldn't be long till the rest of American Sardine Bar caught up to it. Now the Point Breeze bar (1801 Federal St.), from John Longacre and chef Scott Schroeder of South Philly Tap Room (1509 Mifflin St.) has set Wednesday, Nov. 23 — traditionally the biggest drinking day of the year, but of course — for its official debut. We popped in to ASB's staff tasting last night to snag some pics for y'all.
Adam Erace already shared the opening menu for the domestically inclined Stateside on Wednesday, but now we've got some food and interior shots of the cozy South Philly space (1536 E. Passyunk Ave.), which the owners of Green Eggs Café open to the public tomorrow at 5 p.m. after a fam/friends dry run tonight.
With leaves matting the damp pavement and a bony chill in the air, July feels like forever ago. That was when we first told you Jessie Prawlucki, pastry maven of Fond (1617 E. Passyunk Ave.) was opening Belle Cakery at 1437 E. Passyunk. How time flies. Today, after filming a segment on homemade hazelnut brittle with Channel 6, Prawlucki let us poke around the wee white-brick bakery.
"Lee [Styer, Fond chef, her business partner and fiancé] and I were up till 1:30 in the morning last night putting things together,” Prawlucki explained, hauling brown boxes of product on the spiffy new stainless-steel worktables. She’ll be doing all the baking and dessert for Fond out of the narrow, cream-and-crimson atelier, as well as truffles, tarts, homemade candies and other goodies for eat-in (about a dozen seats) and takeout. Look for Belle to open after Thanksgiving. Meanwhile, follow the cakery on Twitter at @bellecakery.

Tapestry (700 S. Fifth St.), the beer-centric redo redux of Adsum from Kar Vivekananthan and his new partner, Rich Rivera (of Manayunk's Belvedere Restaurant Group), opens tonight at 5 p.m. We swung through for an industry-night preview yesterday evening and snagged a few quick photos.

Adam Erace already shared the particulars on Stephen Starr's Route 6 (600 N. Broad St.) last week, but here are a handful of shots inside the just-about-complete space, which the restaurateur will open at Broad and Mt. Vernon this Thursday, Nov. 17.
Named for the stretch of highway that helps Massholes travel along Cape Cod, the restaurant is appropriately mod-New England in appearance, with white wash, cherrywood, clean subway tile and nautical tchotkes out the wazoo. Seating's spread between the main floor near the open kitchen (enter through a courtyard on the Mt. Vernon side of the building) and a wraparound dining room with picture windows peering out onto Broad. Chef Anthony DiRienzo put out lil' food previews like fried clams, johnnycakes, fries and lobster rolls on Friday; his full Maine-to-Maryland menu isn't live just yet but we'll share it here when it is.
On Monday we dropped mention that Ela (627 S. Third St.), the "artful American" corner restaurant from chefs Jason Cichonski and Chip Roman, would be opening this weekend. Today we ran through the completely refurbished space to snag some photos and food details.
Last week, I snagged a seat at visiting chef Massimo Bruno's Supper Club at Cook (253 S. 20th St.), presented by Mavea Inspired Water and Art in the Age. His bio says it best: "There is no 'ball sheet' [bullshit] at Massimo's table, but there's plenty of great food, a lot of passion, and maybe an opinion or two (or three or four)." Some highlights from the evening were the moist, meatless egg/cheese/bread balls in tomato sauce, the salt-crusted fish (keeping the scales on locks the moisture in and the salt out), and the flourless lemon ricotta cake, perfect for that I-don't-think-I-can-fit-anymore-in-my-belly feeling.
In between courses, Toronto-based Bruno shared some words of wisdom: salt your pasta water by the punch and not the pinch, don't let your wife move the Madonna on top of the TV when Italy is playing in the World Cup, etc. For the full Massimo experience, venture with the chef to his homeland on a Puglian culinary tour.
Alexis Siemons of Teaspoons & Petals presented a post-meal tea tasting, an exceptional digestif alternatif that has inspired me to head over to Premium Steap (www.premiumsteap.com, 111 S. 18th St.) to pick up an infuser and some leaves in the near future. To find out more about upcoming events at Cook (including a tea-inspired cooking lesson with Siemons), check out audreyclairecook.com. Bruno's full menu is after the jump.

The second location of Rittenhouse-by-way-of-Italia yogurt shop Yogorino opened at 12th and Walnut over the weekend. Aside from their signature probiotic-rich tart yogurt and various sauces and toppings, this location (we first mentioned it in September) is serving up a selection of housemade gelati and sorbetti. They're all encased in a rotating circular fridge case that resembles a giant frozen-treat-filled version of Iron Man's Arc Reactor. Hours at Yogorino No. 2 are Sunday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Chris Painter, longtime kitchen overseer of Stephen Starr's restaurant empire, is unveiling his very own Il Pittore (2025 Sansom St.) this coming Wednesday, Oct. 26.
"How many half chickens do you think we'll sell on Monday?" Mike Solomonov wondered aloud during a Thursday test-frying sesh at Federal Donuts (Second and Federal), which he, Steve Cook, Bobby Logue, Tom Henneman and CP/Meal Ticket contributor Felicia D'Ambrosio will open in less than 72 hours. My guess was in the triple digits, which shot a slight shudder through the room. Perhaps that's a lofty estimate for a little shop that'll only operate from 7 to 8 (chicken starts at 11), but based on the thermonuclear fat-kid anticipation FedDo has cultivated, I was simply hedging my Southern-fried bets.
