- ¿QUE PASO GUEY? Something loco is going on in various Taco Bell locations. Food fights, drunken stabbings, cooler deaths — a general WTF all around. Freep shares the bizarre details. - Saveur wants to make all of you food lovers out there happy in 2011. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, you can enter to win items such as copper saucepans, cookbooks and espresso machines. Everyone loves a good lotto; go'head and get your gamble on. - Alba truffle who? The most expensive food by a landslide is pretty little saffron. Serious Eats provides insight on sourcing, spending, cooking and appreciating these pricey red threads. - Farm To Philly shares a brief, heartfelt documentary about Mill Creek Farm — an educational urban farm located in West Philly, at 49th and Brown — and how we can help them thrive against urban development. - The Canadians over at Globe and Mail think we should consider incorporating horsemeat into our diets, while using the adjective "cute" in the first line of the essay. I'm not sure I'm convinced; you can decide for yourselves. - Grub Street L.A. shares a little unexpected news of a food truck, called the Flying Pink Pig, that's made its way into the world of adult film as an XXX venue — in a film starring none other than Ron Jeremy. Don't worry, the truck will not be serving food to the pedestrians of Los Angeles.

- The Amateur Gourmet shares his favorite things of 2010, including recipes, books and restaurant meals. I will most definitely attempt Thomas Keller's roast chicken with root veggies; the step-by-step pictures make me feel a bit easier about it. - Where were you in 1995? I was probably wearing a flannel swooning over Gavin Rossdale, but Jack Curtin's Liquid Diet shares what other, more important Philadelphians were doing to shape our current state of Beertopia. Dubbed The 1995 Project, it chronicles the "where-were-they-then?" of our local beer scenesters. Cheers! - Eatocracy shares a link from the L.A. Times regarding a marijuana dispensary's unique and successful joints-for-food campaign. For every four cans of food  brought to the Santa Cruz location, one joint was given out. Trading food for weed in the name of charity. So L.A. - Hot Knives offers tips on beating the winter jiggles, including workouts I'm much more inclined to attempt because they all take place in the kitchen. There is also a helpful video showing just how effective the exercises can be. Any takers on a liver lifts partner? - Fact: my dad was given a very nice (and pricey) chorizo for his recent birthday, and he and I ate the entire thing, while standing, in a matter of moments. This slideshow on Spanish cured meats from Saveur is informative, but it makes me smile, as I reminisce about those special moments with dad. Eating chorizo. - SlashFood offers up bubbly tips for the broke ass "budget minded," listing sparkling wines under $25. Fear not, none come in jug-form. I wish you all a very happy new year. Be safe, eat more and stay sassy. XOXOXO

mixedspecies on Etsy
- Looking for a Christmas present both edible AND creepy? Well, of course Etsy has got you covered. Introducing Brief Jerky, made by mixedspecies. Yes, it is underwear made out of beef jerky. - Whatever your stance on foie gras is, I think you should read this fascinating and very well-written article, entitled The Physiology of Foie: Why Foie Gras is Not Unethical. It's informative, funny and fair — what more could you ask for? Props to Serious Eats, although I should throw out a warning: Some of the descriptions might be a little hard to take for the PETA-inclined. - Grub Street Philadelphia weighs in on their Top 5 pork dishes city-wide. What do you think of their picks? As for their pics, I think they are gorgeous. See what I did there? - Just in time for this viciously cold weather we're having, 22nd & Philly waxes poetic about their favorite hot chocolates. Just reading about it makes me feel all warm and cozy. - FoodZings points out how potlucks can be classy affairs. Just look at the menu to get an idea — beet dip, coq au vin, rabbit stew. Leave your taco dip at home, scrubs!

I find the foie gras piece completely self righteous and self serving! If it's such a great experience for the ducks (and as we all know, they're only here on earth for your pleasure) why do you feel compelled to go to such great lengths to justify your appetite? Just say say you like it and you want to eat it. That's all that really matters. Since you obviously don't care for the animals and you obviously don't think about how eating at the very tippy top of the food chain "animalizes" starving people all over the world (including here in America where people experience the the "good" starving) who might make use of the three 240g servings of grain, why do you need everyone to tell you it's ok? Just eat it and shut up about it. Your whiny intellectualizing demeans the ducks!!
AS Cat Stevens (google it) said, "You're still young, that's your fault. There's so much you have to go through." The good news is you will live long enough to see that you are wrong. The planet is already telling you that the way you want to eat, feel entitled to eat, is not sustainable. You, and that bunch of applauding sycophants, are just not listening.

I've never eaten Foie Gras in my life; but that's just my choice. I thought i'd share an article that I found interesting, and im glad you feel so passionate about it. I've never read anything (this well written) about the pro-side, so I'm glad I could put it out there.

- Music and booze have been friends for a very long time. Beer Lass made me tear up a little with her heartfelt birthday ode to one of my favorites, Mr. Tom Waits, professional music writer and booze imbiber. Here's to the man, the myth, the legend. I hope he's full of bourbon and can't stand up. - Phoodie shares their picks for foodie holiday presents. Not only do they make a good case for why everyone you know will need this particular vegetable peeler, but they tell you where about town you can pick the items up. Thanks, dudes! - Speaking of presents, SlashFood has compiled a nice little list of cookbooks for anybody, from legit cooks to people who just like looking at pictures, plus everyone in between. I would not mind perusing and possibly attempting something from Thai Street Food. Fear not, lazies: They all link to amazon so you can purchase without getting up. - La Phemme Phoodie shares her own recipe for a fire-roasted pepper and feta quinoa salad. Not only does that just sound bangin' and simple to make, but her photos make me wanna try this dish right now. I would not mind throwing this mix into a tortilla and calling it a night. - I'll Eat You wins: she had a Harry Potter-themed birthday cake, with butter beer buttercream! It had to of been made with magical wizardry. HAD TO!

- Grub Street New York shares a photo slideshow (the first of many to be rolled out within the next few days) offering ideas on American regional foodstuffs to give as gifts. Peep their picks, which include grits, ham, oysters and "luxury ice" (above). May I suggest a cheesesteak? - I am eager to watch the premiere of Top Chef All-Stars series beginning tonight, one of the reasons being that our own Jennifer Carroll is a competitor.  But All Top Chef, when you include two links about JC and her viewing party (one even has the word "Philly" in the title!), please doublecheck the location — Carroll's 10 Arts is not in D.C.! Consider me insulted. - Thanks to Serious Eats, here is a preview of the Dec. 6 No Reservations holiday episode. All I want for Christmas is to share a meal with Anthony Bourdain, Marky Ramone and a member of the Misfits. While I prefer Danzig, these guys will do. - Philly Phoodie takes us on a Polish tour of Port Richmond's Czerw's. I was sold upon first utterance of the word kielbasa, but PP goes on to describe their cheesesteak and buffalo chicken pierogies, as well. Note to self: Go there. Buy everything. Eat. - Here is a video by OK Go using stop animation on toast. The video itself is awesome; the song, not as much (I muted it 30 seconds in). Thank you, The Food Section.

- Thanks to Serious Eats, here is an article, much longer than it needs to be, on why Mr. Peanut is finally speaking after all these years. Spoiler: It's Robert Downey Jr.'s voice. - The Skinny Fat Kid wrote a Christmas letter to Santa so heartfelt and real that I just wanna high five him. My fingers are crossed the jolly dude hears ya and comes through, buddy. - The Royal Tavern is turning 8 (?!?!), and to celebrate,  they're running a sandwich-naming/stuffing contest. Thanks to PhillyBeerGirl for the heads up. I'm going with "The Hannibal," liver with fava beans in a Chianti reduction. Eh? Too much? - New autumnal cocktails and tasty bites at The Franklin Mortgage & Investment Co., as described by UWISHUNU. I'm always a fan of seasonal sips, but especially when they involve apples pumpkin syrups and the like.  Warning: do not get Franklin'd. - Mental Floss has a quick-yet-great rundown on all things chowder, including a bit on a man from Philly who won a chowder-eating contest. Shocking, right?

- The Jude Abides created meat diagrams featuring some of our favorite video game characters. Somewhat nerdy subject matter, yes, but unbelievably fucking cool. Awesome job. - The Amateur Gourmet got invited to review Robert's Restaurant, located in famed gentlemans' club Scores. He sends his best gay to get the job done, and hilarity ensues. - Hot Knives' "Luscious Dumplings" are still in the works, but what they've got working so far sounds mighty tasty to me. Japanese eggplant, lemongrass, kimchee, basil ... if someone here attempts this recipe, please holler with your results! - Messy and Picky visit Meadow Run Farm in Lititz, and share their tour through words and photos. Clearly my favorite shots are of the animals looking darn cute.  They also visited Smuckers Meats the day before, but warning: the slaughterhouse photos included are not for the faint of heart. - Ever wonder how to infuse your Thanksgiving feast with beer? Philly Beer Scene gets some expert advice on what to cook, with which brews. Cheers to that!

Sixpoint's Pumpkin Panna Cotta
- I love fall foods, especially all varieties of squash. Eatocracy shares directions on on how to roast a perfect  butternut squash, plus some helpful hints. My helpful hint is add garlic. Always add garlic. - Speaking of butternut squash, Bon Appetit gives a run down on all things butternut(ty), including how to buy, how to use, how to store and a list of drool worthy recipes. Heads up/warning to my  vegetarian family and friends: I will be making this soup, and you will be tasting it. And hopefully loving it, too. - UWISHUNU shares a Wall Street Journal piece on 13 different ways to use pumpkins, aside from carving or turning into a pie. Jose Garces' pumpkin quesadilla sounds delicious and simple enough for even the most inept home chef (ahem, cough) to make. - OK seriously Sixpoint, are you hiring? What do I have to do to be able to partake in your awesome meals? This Pumpkin Panna Cotta with Wort Syrup is not only very innovative but sounds and looks  delicious as well. I can answer your phones, sweep the floors, usher drunks out, whatever it takes. - Pumpkin waffles,  pumpkin salad with pine nuts & pecorino,  spiced butternut squash & apple soup, butternut squash risotto ... oh Oprah, what can't you (and your team) do?! All of these "fall recipes to savor" look and sound amazing.

- My beer quests have suddenly become slightly more reputable, thanks to Philly Beer Girl and her heads up on the recently launched PhillyTapFinder. It's wonderful and simple: You can search by beer name, characteristic, style, or bar name. It's also iPhone and BlackBerry friendly, so you can beer quest on the go. Hooray! - Dear Battlefood: Thanks for making me laugh with just two photos and one sentence. - I very much appreciate FarmToPhilly's list of their favorite  "local" food apps, with an explanation and link to either purchase or download. Notes to self: 1) get iPhone; 2) download locavore app. - Madame Fromage has teamed up with Di Bruno Brothers for a Wednesday blog series on cheese, and I, for one, am STOKED. Here she starts in on blue cheese for beginners. I'm already daydreaming of the stilton-chutney combo she mentioned. - Uhhhmmm, welcome to earf,  FDA. Slashfood shares some info on Four Loko via the Food & Drug Administration, and why drinking it isn't good for you. Twelve percent alcohol, mad caffeine and crazy sweet flavors. Sure, sounds like a healthy, great, innocent night. Until you realize Four Loko IS FUCKING CRAZY and you really shouldn't drink it. Well, you really shouldn't drink more than one... - Holy smokes, thank you  Geekologie for posting these awesomely-nerdy-but-still-really-cool Pumpkin carvings.

- I swear to you I stumbled on this, but TMZ is featuring a series of celebrity pumpkin stencils. I really enjoy the Slash stencil, so much so that I'm willing to share this photo of my sister and I from Halloween a few years ago.  let me know if anyone actually uses any of these. - Care of culinaryschools.org, one of my faves, Phoodie, shares this chart of illegal foods. As in, what the foods  are, where they are illegal, and why they are illegal. Casu marzu, WHHHYYYYYYYY?! - If you are like me, and you love it when two of your favorite things combine — in this case, pumpkins and fast food — then click this link. Serious Eats provides a slideshow of fast-food pumpkin treats along with brief descriptions. Call me a savage, but I really don't mind the Dunkin' Donuts pumpkin muffin. - The Oyster Evangelist proves that you CAN make friends with salad — by topping said salad with french fries. Can I get an Amen? - The Di Bruno Bros. blog gives a short, sweet, to-the-point rundown on the "chuck" cut of beef. I learned more about beef via these few short paragraphs than I have in my everyday beef-eating experience. Chuck, I hardly knew ye.
