Mother's Day is almost upon us, and if there's one universal and indisputable fact about moms, it's that they love bacon the most. I mean, I'm actually just talking about my own mom here—but given that SoWe (918 S. 22nd St.) is breaking out an all-bacon brunch for Mother's Day, I think it's now officially A Thing. Drop by on Sun., May 12 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and bring your mom, because she gave you the gift of life, and we're pretty sure buying her a chocolate bacon bourbon milkshake is the least you could do.

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that Notes from the Weekend is going to have to wait until tomorrow but we've got a good excuse. This week SPTR/ASB chef/Meal Ticket interviewer extraordinaire Scott Schroeder is going to be sharing is totally out of control eating exploits in Montreal. From what we've seen Scott did an A+ job tackling poutine and smoked meat along with over the top tastings at Joe Beef and Au Pied du Cochon Cabane à Sucre. And with Adam weekending in sunny Miami we promise it'll be worth the wait.

We know it's only Monday but it's certainly not too early to start making weekend plans especially when there are burgers involved. This upcoming Sunday, May 5th from 3 to 6 p.m. is the third annual Burger Brawl at the Fleischer Art Memorial (719 Catherine St.), a hamburger throw down for a good cause. The $75 ticket price gets you samples of all of the burgers, drinks from Dogfish and Jim Beam, a commemorative Burger Brawl t-shirt and the chance to see yours truly eat and judge an ridiculous number of burgers. All proceeds go to build computer labs in Philly public schools.

The Insider's got the full lineup of this years competing burgers and we've got to say that we're intrigued with more than a few of this year's offerings (21 total), see the South Philly Tap Room's ham salad topped burgers and George Sabatino's mystery burger.

Want to experience all of the awesomeness that is Burger Brawl? We've got a pair of tickets to give away for Sunday's smackdown. All you have to do is tell us about the burger you'd enter in the Brawl in the comments section below. We'll pick a winner on Friday.

Have you ever been sitting at home scrolling through your itunes catalog or scanning Spotify and thought "man, I could really use a drink right now." Enter Drinkify, our new favorite music-based drinks generator/time waster. Simply enter an artist into Drinkify and the site will come up with a complimentary drinks pairing. Stoked on the new Daft Punk track? Drinkify is matching "Get Lucky" with "The Daft Punk" i.e. six ounces of Bombay Sapphire gin served neat and garnished with an umbrella. Or what about the new Iggy and the Stooges album? That would pair perfectly with a Brooklyn Lager. Predictably Drinkify suggests one PBR served cold to complement Kurt Vile.

We're not shy about our love for Morgan's Pier (221 N. Columbus Ave.)around here and frankly we cannot wait until the May 9th opening day. Zagat caught up with chef for the summer George Sabatino to talk about the menu he's created for the pier and get a first look at the sous-vide-flash-frozen-deep-fried burgers (available in "pink" or "gray" temperatures with house-made American), fries with Frank's Red Hot aioli, various vegetarian offerings and reimagined desserts like a black and white ice cream sandwich and revolving flavor "wooder ice."

If you've ever had the pleasure of experiencing a lobster roll from Luke's Lobster in New York or D.C., well you're probably going to be pretty stoked when you hear what we've got to say. Luke's is opening a Philly outpost of this sustainable seafoodery at 130 S.17th St. The Rittenhouse store front will feature a menu of lobster, crab and shrimp rolls tucked into split-top New England-style buns, chowders and various other Maine imports like kettle chips, Maine Root sodas and fingers crossed for a selection of Maine beers. Be on the look out for lobster rolls come may 16th.

For their Sunday night movies this month, Nomad (611 S. 7th St.) has been running with a Spaghetti Western theme. This Sunday they'll close it out with one of the best titles of them all, "Duck, You Sucker!" (also known as A Fistful of Dynamite, and for being Sergio Leone's last Western). Movie starts at 8 p.m. this Sunday, and of course there will be beer specials and awesome pizza.

Well folks, it's been quite the judge-y week here at Meal Ticket. On Thursday we sat at the judges table for Hop Chef and tomorrow we're heading up to PYT at The Piazza (1050 N. Hancock St.) for the third annual Cupcake Smash to pass judgment on a whole bunch of cupcakes.

The event run from 2 to 5 and the $30 ticket includes snacks and drinks from sponsors PBR, Barefoot wines, Philly Distilling as well as Spodee, MT drinks nemesis but it's for a good cause (all proceeds go to Philabundance) so we'll keep our opinions to ourselves.

Amateur and pro bakers are going to be baking PYT-themed cupcakes in hopes of impressing the panel of judges. Oh, who else is on the panel of celebrity judges? Well you've got Tony Luke, Tommy Up, Cupcake Wars winners Nima Etemadi and Lily Fischer, chef Nathan Volz of 10 Arts, Wendy Rollins and yours truly.

You guys know that we love a made up food holiday around here (sorry, we totally forgot to wish you a happy Zucchini Bread Day yesterday). We're more than pleased to wish you a very happy National Pretzel Day! In honor of this glorious day, the fine folks at the Philadelphia Pretzel Factory are giving away free pretzels all day long. Plus if you're one of the first 100 people to stop by the Pretzel Factory today you will be gifted with a card good for a pretzel a day for the entire month of May. That's a lot of pretzels.
