Chef Mike Stollenwerk's Fathom Seafood House (200 E. Girard Ave.), which we started discussing back in June, has been held up with the typical paperwork snags, but we're told that the fish/Little Fish owner's zoning hearing yesterday was successful, and that he's targeting Feb.7 (the Monday after the Super Bowl) for a debut date. Will keep you posted; in the meantime, check out the sample menus for the joint that we posted back in November.

Once a week, Team Meal Ticket shares its latest sugar-laden fixations. Do not tell 0ur dentist. IN QUESTION: A member of Ritter Sport's rainbow of fine German 100-gram chocolate bars, the white wrapper-clad Milk Chocolate & Yogurt variety begs the question, "Why spoon when you can snap?" Enveloped in silky 55 percent milk chocolate, pockets of tangy yogurt cream fill each of the bar's 16 bite-size squares. AVAILABLE AT: The wide array of Ritter Sport bars stocked at our old reliable Food & Friends (20th/Spruce) was a real boon for Weekly Candy. Just east of Broad Street, Citi Marketplace (13th/Walnut) also keeps several varieties of Ritter Sport on hand. HOW MANY DO WE TYPICALLY EAT IN ONE SITTING: It's a small bar that packs a rich punch. If you're in it for the long haul (say, a six- to eight-hour marathon of 24), you could easily consume the whole thing. Splitting one down the middle with a companion is a fair way to divvy up the goods and reach total chocolate-y satisfaction without overdoing it. No matter how much or how little you consume, keep a cup of water handy to keep any subsequent thiristies at bay. Thank me later. FINER POINTS: Ritter Sport bars draw their name from their perfect sport coat pocket size, making it the ideal contraband for dates, the theater or the daily grind (just be careful on hot days). For those mindful of digestive track activity, the skimmed milk yogurt filling contains live active cultures. Take that, Activia!

Why should beer drinkers have all the fun when Philly has developed into a right smart cocktail town in the past few years? From Sat., Feb. 5 through Mon., Feb. 8, the Philadelphia chapter of the United States Bartenders' Guild will host The Lost Weekend, a series of events, both public and private, that'll celebrate the joy of a well-made drink. USBG members will not only be dispensing fine anodynes for the drinking public, but attending seminars and tastings on everything from Japanese single-malt whiskey to carving ice from 100-pound blocks. "I wanted our gatherings to be more educational," says Philly chapter president Phoebe Esmon, bartender at Noble and Kennett, "rather than us just getting drunk." Fortunately, the rest of us have that bit under control. Check out the itinerary of festivities after the jump. Sat., Feb. 5: Busman's Holiday Tour of Philadelphia Distilling Company and Yards Brewing Meet at Kennett (848 S. Second St.) at 11 a.m. to climb aboard a bus chartered direct to Philadelphia Distilling, maker of Bluecoat Gin, Penn 1681 Vodka and Vieux Carre Absinthe, for a talk on spirits with founder/master distiller Robert Cassell, who also built the column and pot stills used by the distillery. From there, the tour will continue to Yards Brewing for an especially yeasty tour and talk with Lab Quality Control expert Frank Winslow. We daresay samples will be in the offing, and your $20 ticket also includes your first quaff at the Beer Cocktail Happy Hour hosted at Kennett from 5 to 7 p.m. (pay as you go). RSVP for the tour by emailing USBGPA[at]gmail[dot]com. Sun., Feb. 6: Shakerfaces Taping USBG members will celebrate Super Bowl Sunday by working their ice-and-tin moves for the first Philadelphia taping of Shakerfaces, a sort of bartenders-in-motion documentary project sponsored by Combier. We'll find out who has the best shakerface when the Philadelphia compilation premiers on the site later this winter. Mon., Feb. 7: Pernod and Beefeater Cocktail Pairing Dinner at Koo Zee Doo Owner of D.C.'s Columbia Room and official Bartender the President (really), cocktail expert Derek Brown will present "The Difficulty of Making Simple Cocktails" to USBG membership early in the day. Two seatings of Phoebe Esmon and Christian Gaal's cocktail pairing dinner at Koo Zee Doo (614 N. Second St.) will follow; the price of $120 per couple scores five courses of Portuguese fare matched to five Pernod and Beefeater cocktails, plus a "welcome punch." Tue., Feb. 8: Closing Bash at Noble A very industry-friendly late-night happy hour, complete with celebrity guest bartenders, wraps up The Lost Weekend. Drop by Noble (2025 Sansom St.) from 10 p.m. to midnight for discounted drinks, complimentary treats and the sort of carrying-on bartenders do best. There are two kinds of cupcake people. The lovers of big, dense, luxurious cakes with lavishly shellacked frosting are the beneficiaries of the long-ago-shark-jumped cupcake craze. I am not one of these people. Give me the other kind: cheap box cupcakes, bake-sale cupcakes. Give me a cupcake light enough that I can eat it in one sitting and not feel like a prime rib's sitting on my diaphragm. Give me Duncan Heinz and Betty Crocker. Give me Iannelli's (1155 E. Passyunk Ave.), the recently expanded bakery that, tardiness be damned, is getting its slice of the cupcake action. “Gourmet Cupcakes,” advertises the A-frame sign on the sidewalk. “Caution! Highly Addictive!” They ain't kidding. Vince Iannelli's simple vanilla-vanilla is the confection that single-handedly revived whatever fleeting interest survived in the dark recesses of my soul after Food Network premiered Cupcake Wars. His cupcakes are spongy joys, with a fluffy textured yellow cake and not-too-sweet frosting whipped high and sprinkled with round rainbow jimmies. (The turret of icing looked prettier in the bakery case than it does in the shot above — damn wax paper wrap-job.) There's chocolate, too, red velvet, black-and-white and a mint-chip I've heard is just sick. But the plain old vanilla works for me. Eat it immediately.

It's only been open for a few weeks now, but Stephen Starr's new English pub The Dandelion (122-124 S. 18th St.) is already branching out into unexpected territory. On Feb. 1 at 6 p.m., it'll introduce an ongoing lecture series aptly titled Speaker's Corner. The series will bring in food industry luminaries to participate in panels and discussions about their work, and best of all, it's totally free (if you grab a pint and some grub). The first two speakers are H. Alexander Talbot and Aki Kamozawa, authors of the exploratory food blog Ideas in Food as well as the brand-new cookbook of the same name (check out our review here). The panel will be moderated by food columnist Rick Nichols of the Inquirer, and should be a good opportunity to get to know the minds behind the book.

Brindle Cafe (221 E. Girard Ave.), a recent addition to the slew of new East Girard eateries, is aiming at locals in a big way. Scott Forman, formerly of Old City's Swanky Bubbles, opened Brindle to create a vibe that would appeal to a mix of local eaters. To Forman, a Philly native who named his joint after his brindle pit bulls Kayla and Gracie, his space is "by the neighborhood, for the neighborhood, appealing to those outside of the neighborhood." He's combined menu cues from locals with what he'd imagined before he built the interior on his own. While the decor is still in its tweaking stages, the space is still cozy enough for people watching while sipping on a cup of One Village coffee.
Brindle features a vast list of fresh sandwiches — all meats are roasted by Forman — and salads, while elaborating on simple classics like PB&J and gooey grilled cheeses. We tried a slow-roasted pork sandwich (0n rye, accented with sharp provolone and sweet honey) and a green salad with dates, mozzarella, Prosciutto and roasted veggies. A recent trip to India brought Forman back with a jackpot of spices, which he hand grinds, mortar and pestle style. Check out Brindle's full menu below.

Looks like Philly's Le Pain Quotidien (1423-25 Walnut St.), which we first noted back in October, will officially open to the public tomorrow, Jan. 19, at 9 a.m. sharp. The Belgian chain, which has outposts in 19 different countries, specializes in a huge variety of fresh-baked breads (available in a slew menu items, and for retail purchase, too) and light fare, ranging from salads and snack-type platters to quiches, tarts, soups and sandwiches. (Check the full menu for a better idea of what to grub on.) We'll peek our heads in manana and report back with more.
