Set those DVRs, Bravo's got a new food reality show premiering tomorrow night at 10 p.m. Life After Top Chef follows four former cheftestants around, a high drama look at what happens after you win (or lose) everyone's favorite reality cooking competition.
On board for this sure to be entertaining venture is season six's molecular gastronomy-lovin' Richard Blais who apparently having a hard time managing his culinary ambitions and family and the always hilarious Fabio Viviani who has been non-stop visible since his stint on season five. Fedora fan Spike Mendelsohn is down in D.C and lastly we've got Philadelphia's own Jen Carroll who is headed up to New York to open Concrete Blonde.
Bravo's got more than a few teasers to hold us over until tomorrow night's premier, check 'em out right here.
Today on Afternoon Snacks, we wrap up Oktoberfest and celebrate all things cheese.
Even with all the celebrating Philly's been doing, we can think of a few reasons people may be clamoring for still more Oktoberfest. Like maybe you’ve been on bed rest for the past week and a half, for instance, or you’ve been vacationing in a dry county, or perhaps you’re just a devoted binge drinker. Well, take heart: Oktoberfest doesn’t officially wrap up until Sunday, and the revelry is even spreading to mall parking lots now. King of Prussia’s closing out Oktoberfest with this weekend’s BeerFest Royale, a two-day festival full of live music, food, and beer. At least 35 breweries will be represented, split into two tents: one for German brews, the other for regional crafts. KoP restaurants will also be manning stations offering smaller, discounted versions of the highlights off their regular menus. You can buy tickets—which are $45 for most and $15 for designated drivers, with a pricier preview option for early birds and Rich Uncle Pennybagses, and a group discount for the rest of us—right over here.

Notes from the Weekend is a feature that sees the members of Team Meal Ticket compiling all the food/drink highlights uncovered during prime eatin' time, Friday to Sunday. We'd love to hear all about YOUR weekend eating adventures in the comments. Go for it! (View past NFTW installments at citypaper.net/notes.)

You've got to love that the folks at Old City BYOB Chloe (232 Arch St.) are running an Anti-Restaurant Week promotion. For the next two weeks they're going to be giving away $10 gift cards to customers who share their Restaurant Week horror stories.
Industry folks are well aware that these discount dining weeks are not always the most pleasant work-wise but the fact that Chloe is sharing the Restaurant Week misery with diners is kind of genius. Head on over to 2nd and Arch, regale them with your tales of spotty service and skimpy menus and come out with $10 to spend at Chloe on your next visit.
It appears as though Odd Fellows Cafe (1201 Spruce St.) has done a little rebranding. They've decided that YOLO is a more appropriate moniker for their Washington Square West cafe. And since you only live once, why not rename your coffee shop after a term that Urban Dictionary is calling carpe diem for stupid people? Let's just hope that they've got a YO-latte on the menu.
Set those alarm clocks, the Sansom Street location of Federal Donuts has decided to open a full day earlier offering up donuts beginning at 7 a.m. and a full menu of glazed and seasoned fried chicken at 11 a.m. If today's tasting of mint chocolate donuts and dill pickle chicken is any indication, things are going to sell out pretty fast, so we're advising you to get in line bright and early.
Tie a string around your finger and save some dates, with today’s Afternoon Snacks!
Unless you live under a whole pile of rocks, you aren’t likely to forget that the new Center City location of Federal Donuts (1632 Sansom St.) is opening this Wednesday, Oct. 3rd at 7 a.m. sharp. Thanks to the soft open/press tastings today, Twitter and Instagram are awash with mesmerizing photos of dill pickle-glazed chicken and strawberry-fennel donuts, and we are all hungrier for it.
Former Top Cheftestant Mike Isabella is headed over to Amis (412 South 13th St.) tonight to celebrate the release of his new cookbook with a special Industry Night. The menu is inspired by recipes from the newly released Crazy Good Italian the first 100 folks in will receive a copy of the book. Isabella is teaming up with Amis chef Brad Spence and we've got a peek at the home-style menu:
Pigs Head Terrine with Pickled Vegetables
Smoked Olives & Spiced Pistachios
Broccolini with Roasted Pepper Relish and Feta
Roasted Cauliflower with Pecorino and Mint
Crispy Goat with Creamy polenta
Baked Egg Noodles with Spinach and Oven Roasted Tomatoes
Rainbow Cookies
For those who are not in the industry or into late night Monday parties, Isabella is going to be setting up shop at La Colombe (1414 South Penn Square) on Tuesday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. signing copies of Crazy Good Italian chatting about his unique take on Italian that combines a little bit of nonna, a touch of Jersey and bright Mediterranean flavors.
We’re feeling awfully inspired by this weekend’s Inky story on the new not-for-profit grocery store in the works for the city of Chester—a locale that, according to the article, is not just a food desert but food’s “Death Valley.” The city, shockingly, hasn’t had a real grocery store since the last one closed eleven years ago.
But now, Philabundance has stepped in with plans to transform that long-defunct space into a community grocery store called Fare & Square. The new store will require would-be shoppers to become members, but will also feature lower prices than for-profit stores. The project has gotten off the ground thanks to the help of congressman Bob Brady of Pennsylvania and State Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi of Delaware, in addition to corporate and individual donations and government grants. If you’d like to donate to the cause, you can do so here. The store is projected to open in the spring of 2013.
On October 10th Jose and Dr. Beatriz Garces are hosting a gala on the roof to The Kimmel Center to benefit Puentes de Salud and the Garces Family Foundation, their charity promoting healthcare and nutritional programs in Philadelphia's immigrant communities as well as education and school gardens.
Big spenders can go for the VIP dinner which includes cocktails, hors d'œuvres and a five-course meal courtesy of big names like Marc Vetri and Jeff Michaud, Kevin Sbraga, Michael Solomonov, Tim Spinner of La Calaca Feliz, Fish's Mike Stollenwark, Pierre Calmels of Bibou and Zeppoli's Joey Baladino.
General admission gets you small bites and paired drinks from the entire roster of the Garces group. Chefs from Amada, Chifa, Tinto, Village Whiskey, Distrito, JG Domestic and Garces Trading company will be crafting canapés and desserts to enjoy along with live music and flamenco dancers.
To round out all of the cocktails and dancing, guests will be seen out with late night tacos and coffee from Rival Brothers and Guapos Tacos to ward off any charity-related hangovers.
