- Adam Erace is rather wowed by his meals at Barbuzzo, and our critic feels quite strongly that Marcie Turney and Valerie Safran's hit spot is the best new restaurant in Philly. Do you agree? Regardless, pick us up an order of those meatballs for dinner, cool? - We write up Recipes Every Man Should Know, a handy-dandy pocket cooking guide from Philly's Quirk Books. - Lots of food/drink events in the coming days, as broken down by Rachel Burgos in What's Cooking: Peep info on a Sixpoint draft takeover at City Tap House, P&K's country night, a historical dining seminar and more. - Feeding Frenzy has details on new spots like Village Belle, Jet Wine Bar and Flying Saucer Café. - We'll elaborate further tomorrow, but for now peep online versions of the two pieces that appear in our latest Meal Ticket Print Supplement: Adam Erace's rundown of peculiar pasta shapes taking over Philly, and an informative rundown of the not-so-common spirits employed by our city's best cocktail makers.

God Bless the crew at Philly calzonerie D.P. Dough (33 S. 40th St.) for putting together this holiday-themed frisbee of deliciousness: It's the Thanksgiving Zone, a dough pocket stuffed with cubed turkey, stuffing, gravy and mozzarella cheese, along with a side of cranberry dipping sauce. It costs $6, is available for the next two weeks (at least) and, unlike most Turkey Day meals, does not require that you bite your tongue while your extremely racist Uncle Randy talks about Obama in order for you to enjoy it. Brilliant. Eat this immediately!

U-City's long-running La Terrasse, at 3432 Sansom (on one of the coolest blocks in the city, don't you think?), recently took in some consultation and has overhauled its entire menu. Everything's been simplified, with prices kept very reasonable — there's also a build-your-own pizza option now. Check out what they're serving in full after the jump.

Philly's roving Thursday Night Throwdown latte art competition, which has been held at Spruce Street Espresso, Chestnut Hill Coffee and Brew in the past, goes down tonight at 7 at one of Team Meal Ticket's favorite cafés, Bodhi Coffee in Headhouse Square (410 S. Second St.). It's $5 to sign up to compete and free to watch; there will be cash prizes, plus swag from the Counter Culture and Stumptown roasters.

- Thanks to Serious Eats, here is an article, much longer than it needs to be, on why Mr. Peanut is finally speaking after all these years. Spoiler: It's Robert Downey Jr.'s voice. - The Skinny Fat Kid wrote a Christmas letter to Santa so heartfelt and real that I just wanna high five him. My fingers are crossed the jolly dude hears ya and comes through, buddy. - The Royal Tavern is turning 8 (?!?!), and to celebrate,  they're running a sandwich-naming/stuffing contest. Thanks to PhillyBeerGirl for the heads up. I'm going with "The Hannibal," liver with fava beans in a Chianti reduction. Eh? Too much? - New autumnal cocktails and tasty bites at The Franklin Mortgage & Investment Co., as described by UWISHUNU. I'm always a fan of seasonal sips, but especially when they involve apples pumpkin syrups and the like.  Warning: do not get Franklin'd. - Mental Floss has a quick-yet-great rundown on all things chowder, including a bit on a man from Philly who won a chowder-eating contest. Shocking, right?

Phiz Fest, a celebration of all things bubbly, goes down tomorrow, Nov. 18, in the Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt Bellevue (200 S. Broad St.). The fest, which will run from 6 to 8:30 p.m., will allow you the chance to try almost every available type of sparkling wine around — reds, whites, variations bone-dry and very sweet. The $59 entrance fee gets you access to food, wine, and pairing stations, as well as some expert advice from Marnie Old, nationally renowned sommelier and Philly local. Food, which is intended to be paired with your sparkling wine or Champagne, will be provided by Maru Global, Zento, Philadelphia Bar & Restaurant, Maggiano's, Cantina Dos Segundos and others. The event benefits Thomas Jefferson University Hospital's neonatal intensive care unit, so drink up, buttercup! Tickets and information can be found here.

momofuku.com/milk-bar
CP food critic Adam Erace's Green Aisle Grocery (1618 E. Passyunk Ave.) is about to begin carrying cookies from David Chang's Momofuku Milk Bar up in NYC. Yes, including the (in)famous Compost Cookie! From GAG's blog:
Pastry Chef Christina Tosi is best know for her Compost Cookie chock full of pretzels, potato chips, ground coffee beans, oats and butterscotch and chocolate chips. We’ll have those, sold by the single and in pretty six-count tins (great gifts!), as well as the rest of Milk Bar’s cookie line: Blueberry and Cream, Chocolate-Chocolate, Peanut Butter, Corn and Cornflake-Marshmallow.
The first shipment should be landing on P'yunk tomorrow.

I am so excited to eat a Compost cookie! This is way too close to my house to keep me on the good side of "pleasantly plump," though.

Friend of Meal Ticket JC spotted this blunter-than-blunt handwritten sign posted on the door of The Foodery at 10th and Pine. We love it! Obviously this is not where Philly Loko epicenter P.Y.T. is getting its supplies.

Beer geeks take heed: Tonight's High Gravity night at The Sidecar (2201 Christian St.) is serious business. (If you haven't been, the Sidecar crew sets aside one night a month to stock the taps with potent, and often rare, high-gravity brews.) Here's a peek at the lineup for this evening. Must-orders for us will include the Victory/Stone/Dogfish collaboration Saison du Buff, Russian River's Pliny the Elder (but of course) and 10.10.10, a new Belgian strong ale from Stone that's been bottle-conditioned with three types of wine grapes. Rad!
