Here's a look at the new menu at Paul from chef Greg Ling, who took over at the BYOB (1120 Pine St.) in late February. The menu's broken down into first, second and third courses. Definitely still New American in approach, with a couple of ethnic twists (shrimp tempura with XO aioli; puffy fish tacos; orecchiette with shrimp chorizo).

Puffy Tacos??? OMG I cannot wait to eat these!
He said he uses whatever is the fresh fish of the day. Last Wednesday, it was fluke. It's a little deconstructed. Fried chunks of fish on top of fried puffed tortilla chips. The blood orange we used instead of lime gave it a nice touch. Not like the usual fish taco, but I hear he might put a more traditional fish taco on the menu, also using the fish of the day.

Hell of a deal on tap the upstairs bar of West Philly's Marathon Grill (4oth and Walnut): Tonight, and every Friday, from 5 to 7 p.m., they offer the signature Marathon burger (100 percent Angus beef, red leaf lettuce, tomato, and fries or caesar salad), plus a pint of any local beer on draft, for $5. Get on that.
hope that continues after lent!

The Franklin (112 S. 18th St.) turns its latest seasonal menu live this coming Monday, and Meal Ticket was fortunate enough to get a preview of the list that we're excited to share here. Here's the rundown on what you'll be spending your ducats on in PDF.
What separates this menu from The Franklin's past two bitter-bathed battle plans? The latest menu features 34 drinks, and 25 of them were contributed by staffers "undoubtedly representing the style and personality of our barkeeps more than either previous [menu]," according to head spirits slinger Al Sotack.
The "Required Reading" section features the bar's interpretations of nine classics, including the stalwart Old Fashioned (it's our favorite in the city) and Bucks, Aviations and Fizzes. There are sections for both low-impact cocktails and serious ass-kickers ("because sometimes you want a drink with teeth") we're fixating on the "Improved Genever Cocktail," which brings together genever gin (Dutch gin, maltier and more whiskey-like than your average), maraschino liqueur, absinthe, demerara (sugar in the raw) and orange bitters. "Sweet & Vicious" drinks feature fruity elements (muddled strawberry, orange marmalade, peach preserves) backing up high-proof hooch. Punch drinks and a section brilliantly dubbed "Booze in a Glass" round out what we'll be tossing back to usher in the warmer months.

Starting Sat., March 6 (this weekend!), Distrito (3945 Chestnut St.) will start serving up brunch in the classic small-plate Jose Garces style. Buckle me up in that Green Beetle seat, 'cause I'm so ready for a Bloody Maria (chipotle-infused vodka, fresh tomato, horseradish, lime and cilantro) and the Torta de Huevos (egg, Oaxaca cheese, Benton's bacon, avocado, tomato, beans, crema).
Brunch'll be available Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Full menu after the jump.

Tomorrow from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Michael Schulson's pan-Asian restaurant Sampan (124 S. 13th St.) will launch weekday lunch hours by giving away a free pork belly bánh mì, complete with soda and chips, to anyone who sits down at one of their 24 bar seats. Those feeling "in funds" should eye up the five other sandwiches on the menu, a sort of bastard brood of bánh mì all stuffed into crispy Ba Le Bakery Vietnamese baguettes. Noodle bowls (including ramen), shrimp pad thai and salads all make appearances on the daylight menu; prices top out at $9.
Hit the jump for the complete lunch menu.
This is nonsense. There's a meatball banh mi on here, but no tofu? That's just a black eye on the city. Make it lemongrass.

If you thought getting a reservation at Bibou (1009 S. Eighth St.) was a difficult task, try snagging a seat at one of the bistro's ultra-elite wine dinners. Once every few weeks, Pierre and Charlotte Calmels host an evening showcasing wines from different vendors paired with heaven-sent food. Haven't heard about these dinners? You aren't alone, as they aren't widely advertised events.
FOH extraordinaire Charlotte says invitations are sent to those on her mailing list, or offered directly to dinner clientele. "We have so many repeat guests who know Pierre's great food that our wine dinners fill up within two hours," she explains, "and they don't even know what's on the menu." Wanna get in on it? Visit Open Table to book a reservation (your registered e-mail is sent to Bibou), e-mail biboubyob@comcast.net or inquire about it next time you are in for dinner. One more table-landing tip: follow @biboubyob on Twitter for updates on available seating and cancellations.

Was kicking around Sansom last night when we noticed that Sakana Sushi Café (1526 Sansom St.), which opened last summer and lately had been going though something slightly strange, is now called Jay's Favorite Sushi Bar. Jay is chef/owner Jay Zou, who comes to Center City from Johnny Chang's at Broad and Shunk. (Since it's his restaurant, it best be his favorite, right?)
Manager Hubert Zheng describes Jay's as a "New York-style" sushi bar; the specialty roll list is huge, with more than 20 options. Check the cheeky names: "Oh My Goodness" is chopped lobster and shrimp deep-fried and served with spicy tuna; "Don't Ask Me Again" features four fish rolled up with avocado, spicy sauce and masago.
Menu after the jump. Hours: Mon.-Thu., 10 a.m.-10 p.m.; Fri., 10 a.m.-11 p.m.; Sat., noon-11 p.m.; Sun., 1-10 p.m.

- Dan Packel, currently living on the other side of the world, discovers that the Philly cheesesteak has presence everywhere even in mostly-Hindu Mumbai, where McDonald's doesn't even offer beef burgers. Should you dig in, or steer clear? Find out.
- Cheesesteak shop "design"? That's basically defined as where one decides to stack the surplus Whiz cans, right? Not anymore: steak expert Carolyn Wyman looks at two new shops Wit or Witout and the second location of Delaware's Claymont Steak to uncover out the motivations behind these aesthetically pleasing roll splitters.
- There's plenty to do this week in eats, so let Alexandra Harcharek be your guide: What's Cooking has details on an Amada beer dinner, a very piggy special menu at James, an Academy Awards party that also involves PJs and more.
- In Feeding Frenzy, we note the latest openings and news tidbits: check it for items the likes of Delicatessen, Apollinare, Ro-Zu and Hawthornes.
- Over in Agenda, Josh Middleton does a great job chatting up Bill "El Wingador" Simmons about Swallow Your Pride, about a new documentary on Philly's very own Wing Bowl. Wait till you get to the part about what runs through El Wingador's mind every time he sees a live chicken.
Sonata in Liberties Walk (1030 N. American St.) is getting into the brunch game with Sunday service from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. BYOB still applies, and they'll provide Bloody Mary, Screwdriver and Mimosa mixers for you. The menu, which you can check out in full after the jump, features an a la carte build-a-plate option in addition to salads, sandwiches with house-made chips, a few entrées and desserts. (Get dessert pastry chef Krystal Weaver is a sugar ninja.)
For those of us who can't fathom getting up even remotely early on the weekend, chef/owner Mark Tropea is also offering a $31 three-course prix-fixe pretty much anything off the regular dinner menu on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday nights.
