All this week, Philly pub quiz king Johnny Goodtimes has been working off a food/drink theme for his various Quizzo nights around town. Tonight at 8 p.m. at Black Sheep (247 S. 17th St.), I'll be sitting in to read a guest round of food-centric queries for the crowd. Come through, say hi and try your luck! Here's the format of Johnny's games in case you're wondering; prize is a Black Sheep gift certificate, plus the people's ovation and fame forever.* Oh and your pic on JG's website too of course. See y'all there.

* POP QUIZ HOTSHOT. Which food show is that quote from?

UPDATE: Did a quick Q&A on JG's site.

I've been to the last two Philly Beer Week dinners featuring Michigan's Founders at South Philly Tap Room (1509 Mifflin St.) and can attest to its eternal badassness — that's why it's surprising to hear that there are still a handful of seats left for the nine-course, nine-beer, $90 feast, scheduled for tomorrow, June 8, at 7 p.m. After the jump, check out chef Scott Schroeder's full menu for the evening, including pairings, after the jump. Really liking the sound of crab egg drop soup paired with the mysteriously named "Cashew Experiment" (Founders always busts out some weird, rare stuff for this) and the boozy ice cream and cherry oatmeal cookie sandwich dessert paired with the magical Kentucky Breakfast Stout.

Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday, dear Oyster House, now give me a goddamn lobster roll.

That’s exactly what owner Sam Mink is doing on the seafood house's (1516 Sansom St.) second birthday, Wed., June 15. The pound-and-a-half signature lobster rolls (muy autentico on J.J. Nissen top-split rolls) that normally fetch $26 will be sold wrapped to go for just $15 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Could this be practice for a mobile operation, a la Brooklyn's Red Hook Lobster Pound? We can only hope.

The Twisted Tail, the Southern-style restaurant and music venue planned for the former Kildare's in Headhouse Square (509 S. Second St.), is on pace for a July opening. At 4,000 square feet on the ground floor alone, the space is a beast, and TT will make good use of the elbow room, working in tables and a horseshoe-shaped bar; a band room called "The Juke Joint" with a bar, plus capacity for around 100; and a private-event friendly lounge. Owner George Reilly has tapped chef Michael Stevenson to make it happen on a charcoal-fired grill that'll crank out dishes like a trio of ribs (St. Louis and Chinese-style spareribs, plus grilled pacu fish ribs), grilled oysters and Kurobota pork saddle. Boozewise, Reilly is launching a bourbon-centric behind-bar and cocktail program, and will have 16 beers on draft and 40 in bottles.

While the Piazza at Schmidts awaits the coming of Tony Rim’s Raw concept into the mega-space once held by Speck (think June’s end), another of its larger restaurant rooms became available up when Apollinare split after only 12 months of its occupancy. Who is going to fill all that square footage? A nice guy and a great acquaintance — Brian Nagele, CEO of Philly2Night.com, a local listings and entertainment website.

The Far From Home Café truck, which recently took up permanent weekly residence at LOVE Park, is celebrating one of its most popular menu items on June 15 with a day they've dubbed Empanada-Palooza. Not the easiest name to roll off the tongue, but the concept is comparatively simple: From 11 to 3 next Wednesday, FFH's Larry Comroe and Wade Smith will temporarily suspend its burger-centric menu and offer more than 10 varieties of empanada, including the "Havana Chorizo," "Bombay Curry," "Argentin-ish" and a Hawaiian variety stuffed with Spam (woo!). At long last, our deepest desires in the dual realms of processed meat and crispy flaky pastry crust have been realized.

Just got off the horn with Peter McAndrews (Modo Mio, Paesano's, Monsù), who recently wrapped filming with Aaron Sanchez for Food Network. "We made him two spicy dishes — a Sicilian bouillabaisse and rigatoni with harissa, mozzarella, mint and lemon — for a new show," says the chef, who after cooled Sanchez down with prickly pear and blood orange panna cotta. That's nice, but McAndrews dropped a much more interesting tidbit during our convo: He's opening a brick-oven pizzeria, wine and beer bar in the 'burbs. No name yet, but the concept, opening in September, will be located in Media, in the old Locust Crest Tavern on 352; it'll feature the "Venetian-style bar snacks" McAndrews calls cicchetti.

The identity of AE's weekend meal destination will be revealed shortly in Notes from the Weekend, but for now try to guess where he brunched with Bigfoot. Clue: It's a quirky little place in a just-outside-Phily suburb.
