Meal Ticket has it on good authority that chef Matthew Moon is indeed out at Stephen Starr and Aimee Olexy's Talula's Garden (210 W. Washington Square). Less than a month ago, Moon made the jump to the city from Olexy's Talula's Table in Kennett Square, where he'd been top toque since early 2010, to the Garden, replacing opening chef Mike Santoro. We're awaiting comment from Moon and Olexy.

Here's a look at the menus for superduperbrandnew MilkBoy, which just opened at the corner of 11th and Chestnut on Aug. 15. They started off slow last week, serving just coffee and booze (yes, there are coffee cocktails), but now they're full into food, as well, serving an affordable selection of diner-style plates. We particularly like the sound of pickled veggie tempura and bacon satay. Bacon on a stick wheeeee. Both menus after the jump for your perusal (click to enlarge).

Frankford Hall (1210 N. Frankford Ave.), which Adam Erace reviewed earlier this month, is launching a new happy hour this evening. From 4 to 6 p.m., you can take advantage of half-liter drafts for $5 or full-on liters for $10. Food's tied in, too — cop a Bavarian pretzel and half-liter of Victory Prima Pils for $6 (that's a deal!), any half-liter with a sausage for $8 or fries for $3. The Hall's new happy hour will run Tuesday to Friday.

Tiki culture hounds lament Philly’s lack of Polynesian-themed watering holes. Well, their prayers have been answered, at least for one night. This Friday, August 26, Stephen Starr's Granite Hill at the Art Museum (2500 Benjamin Franklin Parkway) is putting on a tiki cocktail dinner in honor of Paul Gauguin, whose art was inspired by tropical paradises like Martinique and Tahiti. The feast will be served in a lush $65/head ($58 for members) buffet featuring butterfish satay, tuna/shrimp poke and a whole roasted suckling pig, while bartenders will be pouring rum swizzles, Zombies and other Tiki tipples. Today at Le Bec-Fin (1523 Walnut St.), Georges Perrier and executive chef Nicholas Elmi open Tryst, a more modern bar/lounge replacing the former Le Bar Lyonnais, located downstairs below the main dining room. While the construction schedule is running up to the last minute (this morning, DAS Architects and the GC were on-site installing the glass countertop for the wraparound bar), Meal Ticket stopped by to take some shots before they open the doors this evening at 5 p.m. The lounge, which will stay open late Monday through Saturday, will feature small-plate French fare from Elmi, like truffle and foie gras arancini, jumbo lump crab cocktail, Le Bec's signature caviar and some takes on classic dishes from their menu dégustation. Tryst will also offer an extensive wine list in addition to some brand-spanking-new cocktails, like the Bustier (gin, Cocchi Americano, St. Germain, rhubarb bitters) and the Peach Smash (whiskey, lemon juice, muddled peaches, mint). Peter Woolsey, chef/owner of Bistrot La Minette (623 S. Sixth St.), is currently vacationing on holiday in France, visiting the colorful family of his Burgundian photographer wife Peggy and updating a very well-written blog on his restaurant's site. Head over to peruse Woolsey's musings on handmade couscous, prepared for him by his wife's sister's boyfriend's grandmother (above); the story of Peggy's parents, who ran bakeries for nearly 40 years; and his thoughts on why French folks simply understand food and nutrition better than Americans:
Kids are taught to eat well from an early age. not only are the school meals three courses with rabbit eel and calfs liver being part of the weekly menu but food is part of the curriculum. My wife learned about wine regions and production when she was in middle school as part of the basic curriculum. I learned about the food pyramid, the dumbest way of explaining food and proper nutrition. Why in the US can we not lead by example? No wonder rest stops are full of crap. Of course that is what you want to eat if you grew up with pizza, hamburgers, and chicken fingers.

The humongous supermarket space on the north end of The Piazza at Schmidts (Second and Girard), originally earmarked for a Pathmark until that grocery chain's parent corp filed for bankruptcy in late 2010, will open this Friday, August 26 as a Superfresh — an imprint that's also incidentally owned by the Chapter 11'ed A&P. That has not stopped this 51,000-square-foot project from coming to fruition — the store, the first new Pennsylvania Superfresh in more than a decade, will open to the public at 7 a.m. Mayor Michael Nutter will stop by around 9 for the ribbon-cutting; from 9:30 on, expect free food (there will be cake!), cooking demos and a glimpse at the store's "wide assortment of fresh, healthy and green eating options."

Wonderful news for Center City office dwellers who moonlight as 'cue heads: Steve Cook, Michael Solomonov and chef/partner Erin O'Shea are installing a sandwich shop offshoot of their Percy Street Barbecue (900 South St.) in the Market & Shops at Comcast Center (17th and JFK). Slated for an October opening, their stand will serve an array of sandwiches prepped with their smoked meats — smoked ham with slaw, Swiss and mustard; chopped brisket with pickles, fried onions and cheddar; pulled pork with collards, provolone and "Sweet Thang" sauce — plus desserts and non-alcoholic beverages.
