This Saturday, August 13, the Phillies will be hosting their annual BBQ Challenge. The event, now in its 10th year, is hosted by Stephen Starr and Garry Maddox and presented by Hatfield Quality Meats and Kraft Barbecue Sauce. The event will raise money for Maddox's Youth Golf & Academics Program, which supports the education and development of inner-city kids.

Pitruco is the name of the mobile pizza operation friends and Philly natives Nathan Winkler-Rhoades, Jonah Fligelman and Eric Hilkowitz hope to roll out onto our streets by late September.
Hilkowitz, who currently works for The Food Trust, says they're aiming for sidewalk space at 35th and Market and potentially at LOVE Park for their business, a pickup truck-led pizza trailer outfitted with a fully functional wood-fired oven (picture it taking up the righthand portion of the framework above). Winkler-Rhoades, who's currently working on a PhD at Harvard, is the pizza guy; he's earned some press up in Mass for building backyard pizza ovens out of clay.
For a better idea of Pitruco's style, browse the photos from a recent test bake — Winkler-Rhoades floats proposed varieties like the standard Neapolitan marinara and margherita, plus pies with sausage (Fiorella's, mushroom, caramelized onion, pecorino bechamel), roasted eggplant (hot and sweet peppers, ricotta) and braised radicchio (garlic, mozz, parm, mushrooms, balsamic).

Prepare to love us even more than you already do, as Meal Ticket breaks down Taco Tuesday deals all over Philly for our readers. We've got all your cheesy, meaty, veggie, mahi mahi goodness rolled up nicely for you and ready to serve. And, of course we’re also giving you the deets on what to chug/sip on/throw back with the tortilla-wrapped goodness. Now you can enjoy Tuesday that much more, though beware — your Wednesday morning might not thank you for it. (Note: Some of these are not formal Taco Tuesday deals, but rather good places that happen to serve cheap tacos. Deals marked with an asterisk are available on more days than just Tuesday.)
Chadd Jenkins, chef de cuisine at Mike Stollenwerk's Little Fish (746 S. Sixth St.), needs a little break, and so does his crew. So next Monday, August 15, from 6 to 9, Stollenwerk will take over the teeny Bella Vista BYOB to run Little Pig, a Southern-style, one-night-only pop-up that'll take the place of all that seafood while Jenkins and Co. enjoy a few days of vacation. (The BYO will be closed for normal service from Sunday to Wednesday of next week.)
Stollenwerk wlll prepare a whole pig with a La Caja China roasting setup, as well as sides like mac 'n' cheese, roasted corn, potato salad, greens, homemade pickles and peach cobbler. Fish chef Steve Eckerd, who's cooking alongside Stollenwerk at Little Pig, is sourcing as many local ingredients as possible for the night through Lancaster Farm Fresh. One complimentary PBR pounder per guest, as well. Figure on a $35 prix-fixe price for everything. No reservations, but we have been promised Skynyrd.
Notes from the Weekend is a Monday feature that sees the members of Team Meal Ticket compiling all the food/drink highlights uncovered during prime eatin' time, Friday to Sunday. Consider this a place for good deals, great dishes, wicked cocktails, recipe triumphs (and tragedies), bizarro conversations and more. We're eager to share our notes, but especially excited to read yours. We encourage you to leave notes from YOUR weekend in the comments. Have at it! (View past NFTW installments at citypaper.net/notes.)

Since Matt Levin stepped away from the stove at Adsum (700 S. Fifth St.) in late July, the role of top cook in the Queen Village bistro has been in flux. Though Levin's sous, Rahjan Shabazz, was initially tapped to head up the kitchen, both he and co-sous Mark Regan left the restaurant last week. Owner Kar Vivekanathan, whose schism with Levin was rooted in philosophical differences over the nature and direction of Adsum's cuisine, has just brought in a brand-new guy to execute a brand-new menu: Matthew Harnett, the Hop Angel Brauhaus and Slate vet Meal Ticket readers might be familiar with thanks to his handiwork in the realm of extreme burgercraft.

A little while back we reported that Xochitl (408 S. Second St.) was under new ownership. Right now there's talk about acquiring an outdoor seating license as well as creating a new look for the downstairs lounge, but what we're most excited for right now are the new bites available at the bar. Every night from 5 p.m. to midnight, grab a drink while you feast on four-chile calamar, torta sliders, tacos de suadero and smoked potato taquitos off chef Lucio Palazzo's street food-inspired bar menu. No major changes as far as the drink selection goes, but that's a good thing — $3 draft and half-off margaritas are still available for happy hour (5 to 7 p.m. daily), and again from 10 p.m. to midnight Thursday to Saturday in the lounge. See the full bar menu after the jump.

Benny Lai, owner of Vietnam in Chinatown (221 N. 11th St.) and Vietnam Café in West Philly (816 S. 47th St.), jetted off today on a three-week sojourn to Vietnam, the first time he's visiting his homeland in 17 years. We luckily caught up with him in enough time to get the early details on Grill Fish Café (814 S. 47th St.), the seafood restaurant he's planning in the 30-seat space that housed the Café before Lai took over the adjacent Abbraccio space in late 2009.

We hear Audrey Claire Taichman's Cook (253 S. 20th St.), the collaborative kitchen space and culinary boutique we first mentioned in the winter, is relatively close — should be up and running in Rittenhouse around Labor Day. But you can get a jump on registering for the many classes planned for the spot before the physical doors even swing open, as the team will begin accepting online rezzies for programming this Wednesday, August 10, at 4 p.m. Keep an eye on their site for more info; right now they're teasing demos with choice phrases like "wine, cheese and more wine," "beer, beer and more beer" and "coffee and doughnuts (seriously!)" Cookie, baby, I think we'll get along just fine.
