Note: Welcome to State Store, a column where we hit the Wine & Spirits shops of Philly and see what's new and noteworthy or just plain weird.
One of the more curious bottles to hit the State Store shelves as of late is a odd concoction called Spodee. Packaged in a pint-sized milk bottle and stopped with an oversized cork, this fortified wine bills itself as depression-era hooch and tastes, well, unique describes it pretty well.
Haven't made it down to vegan haven Miss Rachel's Pantry (1732 W. Passyunk Ave.) yet? Her weekend vegan tasting menus have been wowing both vegetarians and omnivores for a while now but this Friday's peach-centric menu reads like one of Rachel's best yet. Each course incorporates in-season summer fruit into a sweet-meets-savory dish. As per usual the diner is BYO and $45 a head. There are still a few seats left for the 7 p.m. “Life’s a Peach at The Pantry” Farmhouse dinner. Reserve your spot by calling 215-798-0053.
