Officially launching tomorrow, Granite Hill is the name Starr Restaurant Organization has affixed to the Philadelphia Museum of Art's main restaurant space. (We broke down all the details on SRO's takeover of the Art Museum's eats last month.) Priced up to $26 (for a filet/frites plate), the Euro bistro-style menu features starters, "big" salads (Elaine will be so excited!), sandwiches ("Le" Hot Dog!) and a handful of entrées (chicken schnitzel, broiled salmon, etc.) Full menu after the jump. Right now, Granite Hill is open for lunch Tuesday to Sunday from noon to 2:30; starting on Sept. 10, they'll serve dinner on Fridays from 5 to 7:30 to accommodate the Art After 5 crowds. Sunday brunch hours will launch in October.

Believe me sweetie I got enough to feed the needy
- I personally want to thank Phoodie.info for showing me the way of the Album Taco. The site  involves the Photoshopping — both crude and flawless — of tacos into famous album covers. Perusing the site has been endlessly entertaining, laugh-out-loud, :why didn't I ever think of that?", delicious, good fun. Gracias, amigos. Next taco is on me. - Do you know about Sketch Jobs' restau-RANT section? It's a place for food industry workers to vent the frustrations, horror stories and hilarious incidents that take place in restaurants and kitchens all around the city. It's anonymous, so don't get too nervous if you're one of the notoriously crap-tastic customers they're talking about. - RealSimpleFood is now on Twitter! They pick a new ingredient daily and spend the day tweeting recipes, how to pick whatever the item may be, what to do with leftovers, and anything else you could wonder ... all in 140 characters or less. I already made one of their #pasta recipes and it was great. - You can read about  She Who Eats' summer in Nagano,  but for me, viewing her Flickr album, titled "As summer glides away," is the real treat. Chock-full of photos of locally grown fruits and veggies, it's a gorgeous peek into one woman's annual trip to visit family, and a colorful glimpse into a part of Japan that I hope to one day visit. - What can't he do? Grub Street Philly shares this video of chef Masaharu Morimoto singing karaoke and dancing. Maybe next up he'll be spotted at Ray's Happy Birthday Bar on a Friday, belting out "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves"? One can only hope.

The Lola Bean (1325 Frankford Ave.), the café we first mentioned back in April, will be opening on or around Sept. 11, co-owner Erica Zito tells Meal Ticket. They'll pour La Colombe coffee and serve an array of light bites and baked goods.

This Friday, Sept. 3, Johnny Brenda's (1201 N. Frankford Ave.) continues in its tradition of solid booze events with fly flyers with its second annual Pils Picnic. For the fest, which will be pay as you go, the bar/restaurant/venue will stock a multitude of locally brewed pilsners (lineup after the jump) and serve a menu of traditional red-checkered-blanket fare — think fried chicken, deviled eggs, house-fried potato chips, ham salad on biscuits and watermelon salad. The picnic will run "from noon to night."

Looks like Prive (246 Market St.), the Mediterranean small-plate restaurant-cum-danceclub that opened a little more than two years ago, is all done. The odd bilevel space is quiet right now, but it appears as though a sushi restaurant called Nama is poised to take over.

We've rhapsodized plenty in the past about South Philly Taproom's Mexican "New York" burger, a 6,000-ingredient fount of meaty amazingness that appears as a special from time to time. More recently, we discussed El Jarocho's Super Torta, a sandwich that counts carnitas, ham, pork al pastor, steak milanesa and headcheese among its chief components (let's not even get started naming the other toppings and bottom-ings, we'll be here all day). Then last night happened — on a whim, we ordered this torta — chorizo, ham, steak milanesa, avocado, onion, cheese, maybe some other things — from Mexico on the Square at 15th and Pine. All this protein stackage got us thinking: Why do our friends down south love combining meat with meat and meat on sandwiches so damn much? It is an assuredly amazing custom, and we're happy it has made its way stateside ... but what are its origins? Any Mexi Meal Ticket readers out there who can shed some light on this brilliant, sodium-rich tradition?

Bistro Evviva (1236 Montgomery Ave, Narberth) is now open — or rather, re-opened. The bistro is housed in the great room of the historic mansion that's been used exclusively for events since the late '80s after operators closed the original Evviva Restaurant. Chef Abde Dahrouch is the man behind the French/Mediterranean menu for the newly renovated 50-seat dining room — he's the former chef of Taquet in Wayne, as well as La Terazza in Miami. Dahrouch is currently serving his menu in soft-open mode before a grand opening event to be held later in the fall. Dish highlights include salmon tartare with quinoa, capers, red onion, lemon and microgreens; pan-seared striped bass with Brussels sprouts, Jersey plum tomatoes and tapenade; and kobe beef bolognese over spaghetti with sweet peas and porcini mushrooms. Bistro Evviva has a full bar, but patrons are welcome to BYO ($5 corkage). Hours are Monday to Thursday from 5 10, and Friday and Saturday from 5:30 to 10:30. Cash/check only.

Friend of Meal Ticket Jason Turner checks in with this dispatch on Le Whif, which is basically a chocolate asthma inhaler. Yes seriously. J's report after the jump. Every day at 3 p.m., my coworkers and I receive an email from our in-house coffee shop about some sort of gentrified snack that will double as an excuse to step away from our desks mid-afternoon. Today, I asked myself this question: Have I ever wanted to eat some chocolate without getting a fat ass? The answer: Yes. That's why I opted to try "whiffable chocolate powder" instead. It sounds like a vague drug reference, but I'm actually referring to Le Whif, a small plastic tube that clicks open, and once inhaled, tastes like delicious chocolate-flavored dust settling onto your taste buds. It tastes exactly like chocolate, which I guess would be cool if it wasn't a glorified asthma inhaler filled with cocoa powder. As the website says, "Le Whif is a new delicious approach to eating by breathing," which is like saying, "all that chewing has been really tough on us for all these years, lets try something different." It's gimmicky, yes, but so is space ice cream, and from what I can remember, that was delicious and a great idea. Unfortunately, it just never took off because space ice cream is a really stupid idea, unless you're a hungry astronaut. Le Whif, however, is low in fat. which is good for people that want to pretend to be from the future and also want to be dissatisfied. Also, a French guy made it, so clearly it's a joke.

I'm going to consult my doctor as to whether or not I can use this to replace my regular asthma inhaler. Or at least I'm going to write the inhaler company a strongly worded letter making them aware of the advancements in inhaler science that they have embarrassingly not kept up with.

Chef Siobhan Allgood, most recently a contestant on Fox's extremely ridiculous show Hell's Kitchen, is now the chef at Alex Capasso's West Side Gravy in Collingswood (714 Haddon Ave.). The comfort-food BYO, which opened in May, now has a menu featuring a few of Allgood's signature touches, including Baja-style fish tacos (pollock, shredded cabbage and "secret sauce") and the "Tuna From Hell," a seared ahi sandwich with prosciutto, Saint-Andre cheese, lettuce, grilled pineapple and sriracha on brioche. Check it out in full after the jump.

Freshii, an international healthy/green franchise brand with stateside locations in Chicago, D.C. and Denver (nine more cities on the way, too), will take over a portion of the retail space in the The Residences at the Ritz-Carlton, a company rep confirms. We'll update here with a timeline as it comes into focus.

[...] In September, we mentioned that Freshii, the “earth-friendly” café concept that has an East Coast presence in L.A., New York, D.C. and Toronto, would be opening in the Residences at the Ritz-Carlton. We’ve got word that this Philly outpost will open to the public next Wednesday, Dec. 15. Freshii locations, which offer healthy, easy-to-execute dishes like burritos, salads, wraps and rice bowls, can operate without hoods, ranges, ovens or dishwashers; they bolster their eco-conscious mission statement further by offering packaging and utensils that are either recyclable or biodegradable. Also, CEO Sumeet K. Goel kinda calls us fat in a press release: “This is the 5th largest media market in the US,” he’s quoted as saying, “but has there are surprisingly few healthy eating options compared to many other large cities.” Whatever Goel! OK fine that’s totally true, but whateeeeevvvvsss brah Freshii opens Dec. 15 [...]
