Birthday steez: Pizzeria Stella and Mémé

Two tasty locales are celebrating los cumpleanos tomorrow, Sept. 29, and that means some literally-sweet dealage is in order. Pizzeria Stella (420 S. Second St.) is marking its first 12 months in business here's our year-old post on the opening! with free gelato for any guest who purchases food. Tomorrow's flavors include basil, hazelnut, blackberry, stracciatella and toasted coconut. Across town, frequent Meal Ticket haunt Mémé (2201 Spruce St.) is turning dos and will be giving out free cake to all diners. If you find a piece of chocolate in your slice, you'll win a $100 gift certificate. (Way better than a plastic baby!) Don't forget they also rock a $35 prix-fixe every night they're open, with a corresponding $2-a-pop Champagne/High Life drink deal.

All it's cracked up to be: Oyster House's Tuesday night blue crab feast

Want to eat like a boss on a budget? Then head over to the Oyster House (1516 Sansom St.) for their Tuesday Night Crab Feast, as I did last week. The deal is running every Tuesday from 5 to 11 p.m. through October for $19, you get three massive blue crabs, a great-sized portion of yummy homemade coleslaw and corn on the cob. For $30, you can get the all-you-can-eat option (which runs from 6 to 9 on Tuesdays), though I was quite satisfied with my three-crab meal. My friend and I started out with cocktails: I chose OH's riff on a mojito, the Love Park Swizzle, with light and dark rums, mint, lime and bitters. The drink packed a mean punch, a nice take on an old classic. We also split an app of the steamers, which came with a bowl of their cooking broth and some butter and lemon to dip/garnish delicious and not at all sandy, a great way to start off our meal. Next up were the crabs, which my friend was gracious enough to show me how to rip apart and devour in a surprisingly ladylike manner. Aside from the required Old Bay, Oyster House likes to let the fresh seafood do the talking for them, as in no overcomplicated bells and whistles with preparation or presentation. The staff and crowd all seemed to be having as much fun as we were, a good sign who doesn't like good vibes with their crustaceans? If your budget won't allow you $19 for a Tuesday night feast of your own but you're still hankering for some seafood, do yourself a solid and check their daily buck-a-shuck deal, a Meal Ticket favorite. From 5 to 7 Monday to Friday and Saturdays from 9 to 11, grab a seat at the bar and order however many "oysters of the day" you want, for $1 each. Three dollars will get you an oyster shooter and/or the draft of the day, as well.

OK, we've been coming real hard with the Restaurant Week picks and info for some time ("We're up to our ears in prix-fixe deals, mannnn," they groan), but it behooves us to mention Chinatown Restaurant Week, which kicked off yesterday and runs through this Friday, Oct. 1. The dealage-heavy six-day event, now in its second year, features dinner options ranging from $15 to $25. Full list of participants here.

And so another Restaurant Week comes to a close tonight across Center City. We hope we provided you with some guidance as far as where to spend your money. We'll now leave you with our last pick for this fall's Restaurant Week 2010: Pub & Kitchen (1946 Lombard St.). They don't take reservations, so no constant OpenTable refreshing and no having to eat at the bar because you don't have a reservation just go. A little planning might turn you up an outdoor table, but Jonathan Adams' menu sounds good no matter where you're sitting. We also have two weeks' worth of recommendations for you to choose from. Get out there tonight, though this is your last chance until January 2011.

Head out for pizza tonight at Pizzeria Stella (420 S. Second) for "Pizza Week," where $25 will get you an antipasti dish or salad, a pizza, gelato, and a glass of house wine, draft beer, or non-alcoholic drink. Quite an amazing deal in the sea of deals that has been the past two weeks. Special pies this week include a red pie with fontina and provolone, and a mortadella pie with pistachio-green onion pesto. (Read more on Stella in Drew Lazor's July pizza story.) Another Headhouse steal can be had at Xochitl (408 S. Second St.) where chef Lucio Palazzo is offering a five-course Restaurant Week menu.

Did the Stella thing. What an unbelievable deal. The special pizza was awesome (despite the haters their pizza is the best, well better than Zavino) and I had grilled octopus with an excellent pesto sauce and, as if I didn't have enough basil, got a good size scoop of basil gelato. All this and a glass of house white (went well with the octopus) for $25. Living large.

Need somewhere to get your deal on tonight? Every day during next two weeks, Team Meal Ticket will bring you a daily Restaurant Week pick. We will highlight some of the best deals being offered by officially participating restaurants, as well as some renegade Restaurant Weekers around town. We are big fans of eating at the bar at any time of the year, but during Restaurant Week it can be the slyest move in town. Both Amada ( 217-219 Chestnut St.) and Tinto (114 S 20th St.) are offering their Restaurant Week menus (Amada/Tinto) at their respective bars. It is first-come, first-serve, so you don't even need reservations to dine at the two hottest Restaurant Week spots. If you require a little more leg room, think about going farm-fresh at Noble (2025 Sansom St.) Pumpkin (1713 South St.) or Supper (926 South St.). The Restaurant Week menus for all three restaurants (Noble/Pumpkin/Supper) stay true to their seasonal roots, and there are plenty of tables available at all three places tonight.

Free Coup de Taco today and Friday

Got word from the Coup de Taco gentlemen that the West Philly food truck will be giving out free tacos to all comers two times this week as part of a promotion for what else? the HBO series Entourage, which will soon start syndication on WPHL 17. (Vincent Chase IS tacos!) Today, drop by Coup's location on 40th Street between Locust and Spruce between 1 and 5 p.m. for thematic bites like "The Medillin," tikka masala tofu with mango chutney and cilantro (sounds way better than Vinny's Cannes stinkbomb); and the "Ari-os Amigo," a Thai chicken taco with citrus apple slaw and chipotle peanut sauce. They'll do the same thing this coming Friday, Sept. 24, from 8 p.m. to midnight at the corner of 20th and Walnut. UPDATE [24sept10]: If you're looking for Coup de Taco tonight at 20th and Walnut, the truck might look something like this:

Distrito's endless tacos and enchiladas deal kicks off tonight

Last week, we were treated to a preview taste of the Endless Taco and Enchilada Monday Night Football Fiesta that starts tonight in the downstairs cantina at Distrito (3945 Chestnut St.). From 8 to 10 p.m., watch the defending-champ Saints take on the 49ers on one of the TVs in the cantina, or on the projection screen from the second-floor lounge, while making your way through an endless supply of tacos and enchiladas for the flat rate of $25. There are also $2 Dos Equis Amber and Dos Equis Lager as part of the special. (Full menu after the jump; we couldnt get enough of the carnitas and lengua tacos, and the chicken enchiladas were insanely good.) Stipulations: The entire table must take part in the special, and only one plate can be ordered per person at a time. The endless deal will run every Monday from 8 to 10 until December 27. (Mark your calendar for Eagles vs. Redskins on MNF on Nov. 15.)
