To be honest, when visiting Vox Populi (319 N. 11th St., thirrd floor) we usually aren't thinking too much about eating (okay, maybe a few beers) but this Sunday they're hosting an ice cream social and artist talk with members of the collective along with scoops courtesy of Little Baby's and Franklin Fountain. Artists will be on hand to discuss their works in an exhibition entitled Spark Gap. What is a spark gap exactly? Well, in electronics terms it's that magical meeting place in which bursts of energy - sound, light and heat - appear. Or it could just be that magical gallery show with FREE ICE CREAM.

No word yet on flavors but for a preview of the works head on over to Vox's site.

Food isn't really the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about ultra dive Dirty Frank's (for us it's more like that pony High Life and kamikaze special) but (347 S. 13th St.) but right now Off The Wall Gallery is seeking submissions for a multimedia art show all about food. They're looking for two and three dimensional works inspired by (or even made out of) the world of food. The show is going to run from June 2nd to August 2nd so make sure to get those hamburger paintings and ground beef busts in by May 9th. Head on over to Off The Wall's Facebook page for more info about how to submit your work.

Oh, and kudos to who ever came up with the "from Dada to Wawa" tag line, well done.

Local artist and self proclaimed carnivore Dominic Episcopo is embarking on a pretty unique photo project: recreating American iconography in meat form for his upcoming coffee table (or should that be butcher block) book, Meat America.

Episcopo is off to a great start with steak silhouettes of Lincoln and Elvis, ribeye in the shape of the great cattle raising state of Texas, an ode to Robert Indiana's iconic Love sculpture in the form of styrofoam packed ground beef and a Gadsen flag that no one will tread on due to the fact that it's made out of sausage.

Episcopo needs a little help to make sure that this meaty manifesto sees the light of day so if you'd like to help out head over to his Kickstarter page and donate to the carnivorous arts. Donating gets you plenty of great perks like signed first editions of Meat America and original art.

And while you're feeling generous, might as well hop over to Lucky Ant and kick in a couple of bucks to Hot Diggity's food truck fund

Lemon Hill, BlueCat, Fare, La Calaca Feliz and London Grill are among the participants in the first-ever Fairmount Restaurant Week. The promo, produced by With Art Philadelphia, is sponsored by the Fairmount CDC and intentionally coincides with the splashy debut of the Barnes Foundation. Three-course menus that vary in price from $20ish to $35 abound at the eligible venues; Lemon Hill's Mitch Prensky and Joel Mazigian, for example, are cooking crispy chicken livers with pickle celery, rye toast and celery; pork belly with black beans and clams; and banana/chocolate bread pudding. More menus on the FRW Tumblr.

Back in January I wrote about Gary Reuben's Underground Arts basement theater in the Wolf building (12th and Callowhill) was gearing up for a restaurant addition called Underground Eats, run by GM Mike Staldi and producer Mike Thatcher and featuring a menu designed by drummer-turned-chef Tom Stalling. The space underwent its last formal inspection on Tuesday, and looks to open its doors within the next two weeks.

Chances are the date March 9 doesn't hold broad significance to you. That's why Harry Baker wants you to take off work and come marathon-drinking with him to commemorate the passing of one of America's most treasured alcoholics.

Eighteen years ago Friday, Charles Bukowski succumbed to cancer after decades of rakish existence, during which the Angeleno writer cranked out countless stanzas, chapters and paragraphs. Most all of those words were spurred into a gallop by Bukowski's meticulously documented drinking, as vital a part of the writer's mythology as any turn of phrase. "He wrote his own legend," says Baker, a poet, rugby player and former bartender.  (Fittingly, we first met Baker, in his third year of organizing Bukowski death-day tributes, over rocks glasses at The Khyber.)

To commemorate Buk's passing, Baker, who now makes his rent working for SEPTA and coaching high-school tennis, has organized a series of events at bars throughout the city. His Occupy Barstools plan capitalizes on the strength-in-numbers strategies of that protest movement with an honest purpose: getting loaded, the most populist of all playing-hooky persuasions.

About three weeks back we received an mysterious package at Meal Ticket HQ containing a T-shirt emblazoned with cryptic Toynbee tile-inspired phraseology about ... gelatin. We were a bit flummoxed at first but then realized there really could be only one origin for such an on-message piece of apparel. Yes, this is the handiwork of Mo Sheehan and Cory Kete, the twosome behind the amazing My Jello Americans Jell-O Shot blog. CP profiled them in 2010.

Met up with the minds behind the impending Pizza Brain/Little Baby's space in East Kensington (2311-2313 Frankford Ave.) this a.m. to get some long-awaited details. Full report tomorrow, but for now they've sent over this hyper-realistic artist's depiction of their courtship. (It's by Ethan Harper, who's been featured in CP's Comics Issue in the past.) Second panel after the jump.

Since its first show in May 2009 (Pig Iron alum Sarah Sanford's Appetite), Gary Reuben's Underground Arts basement theater space in the Wolf building at 12th and Callowhill has promised a food-and-booze component. By December's end, that facet finally got its name (Underground Eats), its chef (Tom Stalling) and a ready-to-install kitchen.

Tiny Dynamite, which put on the A Play, a Pie and a Pint theater/pizza/beer series in October, enjoyed sellout crowds for each of its four productions at Society Hill Playhouse, so organizer Emma Gibson (above) is serving a second helping at Fergie's Pub (1214 Sansom St.). Laugh your ass off during Steve Lyons' one-hour comedy, Peaches en Regalia, while sipping beers and grubbing on traditional English meat or veg pies (in lieu of pizza this time). The first performance will be this Wednesday, Nov. 9, with additional shows on Nov. 13 and 17. Tickets are $15.
