Tomorrow night at 6 p.m., DJ Venus 7, “Diva of the Deep” often seen spinning at Kung Fu Necktie, takes over the kitchen at Snackbar (253 S. 20th) as part of the Rittenhouse boite's Supper Club series hosted by DJ Lee Jones. The Thailand-trained chef is putting out two traditional four-course menus (one vegetarian, one not) for $30 with a Jones-spun backdrop of uptempo house. I've been putting in calls to Edward A. Taraskus, the attorney listed on the orange sticker on the door of the former Spaghetti Warehouse (1026 Spring Garden St.), the space we previously stated had involvement from Avram Hornik (4 Corners) and his old pal, R5's Sean Agnew. While their names weren't on the posted license application (as was reported to me by a lousy source, which I later corrected) the name Union Transfer LLC was. Remember I said that Agnew neither denied nor admitted his involvement when asked two nights ago? Check here, on the PLCB's website. Agnew, along with Hornik, Mark Fichera (a longtime 4 Corners guy) and James F. Glancy, are listed as members on the license. So there is involvement between Hornik and Agnew, as I claimed. Just how much involvement isn't known as yet, as neither Agnew (away on vacation) nor Taraskus' office will comment. It is notable that those fielding phone calls at Taraskus' office (they've reportedly handled previous Hornik-related real-estate deals) wouldn't even say exactly who was involved in the project.

Right before New Year's Eve, I reported in Icepack that the just-closed Spaghetti Warehouse at 10th/Spring Garden would be turning into a live music venue courtesy of Avram Hornik of 4 Corners (Lucy's, Drinker's, Noche, etc.). Hornik tried buying the boarded-up Global Thrift on Front and Girard. once the legendary Jumbo Theater, in 2008 but was denied by neighborhood associations because they didn't want what they perceived as club noise. Now Hornik is the name on the orange placard pasted on the Spaghetti space — a name next to that of his old pal Sean Agnew of R5 Productions, who was going to help Hornik turn Jumbo into a World Café Live-style venue. Is R5 a partner in the venue in that it has partial ownership? Does that mean Agnew will stop booking the neighboring Starlight Ballroom/Club Polaris? Stay tuned. UPDATE [05jan11]: Last week, Icepack reported that Avram Hornik was taking over the former Spaghetti Warehouse for a live rock venue with some form of food. Yesterday, I got a call that a liquor-license application had gone up, with R5's Sean Agnew name appearing alongside Hornik's. That is incorrect, and I sincerely regret the error. The name on the placard is UNION TRANSFER LLC, associated with the address 1845 Walnut Street Suite 890, which is being used by a new entity out of Hornik's 4 Corners. I'm finding out now about the lawyer handling the deal to see who exactly that is. In the meantime, Agnew wrote me last night with the following: "There is nothing to comment on at this point because there is literally nothing to comment on," said Agnew, doing his best Gertrude Stein imitation. "There is no news." Not a denial, nor an admission. Somebody does want word to go out, though, that Agnew might have something to do with this, as my anonymous source was adamant. More in a bit ... UPDATE [06jan11]: Looks like R5's Agnew is definitely involved with this project after all.

Yes I should have very well driven IMMEDIATELY to see for myself if the names were on the sticker BUT the correction was made last night AND I'll hopefully be speaking with the legal eagles behind this purchase today.

You don't need to drive there to fact check but you'd think a simple cell phone picture would be provided. Hindsight I suppose.

There was always more to the story than what is or isn't on the orange sticker. Like the notion that both Agnew and Avram are both PLCB licensees on the location. As I stated from the first - "stay tuned". Whether this a live venue or the pair's own version of a pizza parlor, something is a foot between them.

The city has given Sunoco the boot and brought in the beloved Wawa as headlining sponsor, meaning Philly foodies and tourists alike should expect satisfaction at this year's Welcome America Taste of Philadelphia fest, which kicks off tonight at 5 p.m. on Penn's Landing and runs until Sunday. Contributing eateries this year include Capital Grille, Cuba Libre, Capogiro, Tommy Gunn's, Paesano's, Jamaican Jerk Hut and Tony Luke's (beer from Yards, too). Those in attendance can sample some of Philly's best dishes for the price of a No. 3 at Mickey D's — tickets will be sold at a dollar apiece, and most hearty helpings will cost you three or four tickets. When you get thirsty, wash it all down with a free sweet tea courtesy of the good folks at Wawa. Stop by on Saturday, too, to groove with funk pioneers Morris Day and The Time as you walk the pier and eat to your heart's content. If you're in the mood for some uplifting while you're grubbing, make another trip on Sunday afternoon as Taste presents its first gospel extravaganza, featuring headliner Hezekiah Walker.

P.Y.T. owner Tommy Up — as only he can — caused a stir earlier this week when he called out The Roots' ?uestlove for comments made to Newsweek regarding society's role in influencing the actions of Donte Johnson, the accused murderer of Sabina Rose O'Donnell. (Questo took this stance prior to the Newsweek piece, too, garnering a huge response on our sister blog Critical Mass.) Up stated that Questo did not contribute to O'Donnell's memorial fund as he said he did. Up, tapped for more elaborate comment yesterday by CritMass editor Molly Eichel, said that he wants to avoid further negativity surrounding the issue — but did point out that he's made a menu change at his Piazza burger joint. An alcoholic milkshake named for Questo has been removed from the drinks menu and replaced with another sucked-through-a-straw shoutout. Diplo's Key Lime Pie is at mix-up of Key Lime liquor, Gosling's rum, lime juice, vanilla ice cream and crushed graham crackers."When we first started the [O'Donnell] fund, Diplo donated right out of his pocket, and he did it without being asked," says Up in an email.

I understand Mr. Up wanting to avoid further negativity around the issue, but I'd personally like to know what ?uestlove's sponsors think of his little essay, the Newsweek article, and what's looking more and more like the FACT that he never donated a penny to the Sabina Rose O'Donnell fund.

This isn't some local musician who should be blown off; we're talking about a Grammy award winning artist who's on television 5 nights a week and has a Nike sneaker named after him, among other things. How many Twitter followers does he have?

It's nice that Questo has a friend at Newsweek trying to do damage control for him, but I think it's high time the man apologized and then shuts his stupid mouth about the whole matter.

Standing on the shoulders of giants leaves me cold.

MEN need to STOP RAPING WOMEN.

and other men need to STOP MAKING EXCUSES for how rape could happen.

Perhaps the lyrics of MUSIC could do a better job of subconciously influencing rather than promoting and glamorizing the negative uses of beauty and life.

And maybe stop murdering them, too. And apologizing for murderers.

Wait, is that PYT place still open? The owner should stop worrying about what Questlove is saying and start focusing on his lame ass excuse for a restaurant. Poor service, lame food and boring atmosphere should be his concern. What kind of serious restaurant allows the employees to wear sandals? Seriously? I've never had worse service.

There's nothing better that I could've done in yesterday's scorching heat than stand on the corner of 40th and Walnut in University City and watch Chrissie Hynde sweat. No, she wasn't doing a revue of her hits with The Pretenders (though a bunch of chunky dudes toting along her old albums for autograph purposes would've loved that). Instead, she, along with a nice young woman in a chicken suit and several People for the Ethical Treatment of Animalspeeps were at that corner's McDonald's for PETA's new "I'm Hatin' It" campaign. Yes, the anti-McDonald's blitz already has billboards about the conglomerate's evil bird-slaughtering technique — scalding, maiming. I don't eat that drek to begin with. If I did, PETA's handouts to kids — a "Chicken McCruetly Unhappy Meal" with a cut-out of a mean Ronald clown, a rubber chicken, a blood-as-ketchup packet and info on how intelligent birds are killed — would get me off everything Mickey D offers for life. That said, Hynde, a long-time PETA lady, came by and stood on top of McDonald's trash can and yelled out her "I'm hatin' it" mantra while asking the crowd to choose knowledge over ignorance when buying lunch. Along with sweating off her formidable mascara (me too, hon!), Hynde told the assembled mass just how lucky we were to live in a country where peaceful protest such as this was allowed. Mere moments before, a Ronald McDonald House station wagon passed before us. No word on how the lady in the chicken suit fared. More photos after the jump.

I prefer organizations like the Food Trust, that work on getting affordable, fresh, "real" food into lower income neighborhoods instead of organizations like PETA that spend their energies on negativity-based activities like hate campaigns.

If you like Italian food, listening to Italian folk music, eating outdoors, doing good deeds or some combination of all of the above, join Le Virtù (1927 E. Passyunk Ave.) on Tuesday, May 25 from 6 to 9 p.m. as they help raise money to support DisCanto, a bagpipe-totin', tambourine-shakin' group from L'Aquila, Abruzzi. In their “campo” area they'll be grilling pancetta, lamb, fresh-made sausages, ribs and veggies and passing around Abruzzese-style stuzzichini. Buffet tickets are $15 and there'll be specials on wine, beer and cocktails. All profits support the group's upcoming 2010 U.S. tour scheduled to start in October, at which point they'll be making a stop at Le Virtù. Mangia bene.

Lovely weather is sure to bring crowds to the Piazza at Schmidts this weekend. Add a burger-eating contest, live music and free food and things'll be packed tighter than beach attire on Baywatch. This Saturday and Sunday (10 to 7 and noon to 7, respectively) will host its first-ever Restaurant Weekend. Stop by and shop the farmers market, then stick around to watch contestants swallow burgers a-la-P.Y.T. in the gluttonous race proprietor Tommy Up has dubbed Burgerdelphia. "But you have to say it like this — Burg-Burg-Burgerdelphiam and do the arm movements," Up clarifies to Meal Ticket (he's referring, of course, to the It's Always Sunny flip-cup episode). Pre-contest, he'll be giving out T-shirts and quizzing the crowd with burger trivia; then the gorging begins at 12:45 p.m. More than 150 people entered, but only 10 will scarf to win the Burgerdelphia trophy, $250 cash and $100 P.Y.T. gift certificate. Post-contest, catch Harry Arnold of Darling's Diner recreate his famous cheesecake and other Darling's dishes in cooking demos, then shop lots of great artists and crafters displaying their work and get your grub on compliments of local restaurants. Sunday, vendors are tentatively setting up on Hancock Street, as SundayOUT, hosted by the Equality Forum (see all CP's coverage here) is going down in the Piazza. Yes, Wilco like the band. Jeff Tweedy and Co. are playing a way-sold-out show at the E-Fac this coming Saturday, April 10, but P.Y.T.'s irrepressible Tommy Up managed to snag a handful of tix. How can you get them? Head over to The Piazza and order the Chicago-influenced Wilco Burger — a split brat, asiago cheese, Emerald relish, mustard, chopped onions and yellow hots, all on a pattied pretzel roll — and you're automatically entered into a raffle to win one of three pairs of tix. The drawing will be this Friday at 6 p.m.

The burger and a side of fries is $12, but if you yourself wanting more food, don't cry — you can rely on him (Tommy). You can combine anything you want.

Asher Roth, Bucks County's finest MC, yesterday dropped a mixtape titled Seared Foie Gras with Quince and Cranberry. The DJ Wreckineyez-mixed release, unfortunately fortunately, does not feature any rhyming couplets skewering the controversial gavage process. Instead, we got Roth (plus guests like Talib Kweli and B.o.B.) over beats from the likes of Kanye, Just Blaze and 9th Wonder, with a few food-related lines mixed in there for good measure.

Here's "Hot Wangs," featuring passing mentions of breakfast cereal, lo mein, leftover-stuffed sandwiches and escargot:
