There are two steady truisms you can set your damn watch to this NCAA Tournament: 1) Jay Wright is ridiculously good-looking (that's him above, politely telling us that he's not interested); and 2) bars bust out some great deals to get asses in stools to watch all these games. Below, we've collected a few March Madness specials around town after the jump. If you have one to add, leave a comment or e-mail drew.lazor[at]citypaper.net. Go Wildcats, go Owls!

- Marathon Grill at 16th and Sansom is offering a $2 draft of the day during games.

- smith's (39-41 S. 19th St.) has $10 pizzas and $3 Philadelphia Brewing Co. beers all day today. Here's their rundown of daily specials.

- Gypsy Saloon in Conshohocken (128 Ford St.) is doing a special $5 bar menu (panko-crusted jalapeno poppers, wings, chicken/sweet corn quesadillas, etc.), $2 Miller Lites and lagers, $2.50 Miller Lite bottles and $4 Svedka cocktails through April 5.

- MidAtlantic (3711 Market St.) is doing weekly specials for the tourney. This week, check out $6 standard burgers during lunch and a $30 New York style with local 'shrooms and blue cheese for dinner. Five-dollar MidAtlantic wings (your choice of sauce) and $3 Yards Brawler or or Philly Pale at the bar.

- All three local Paddy Whacks locations will have $3 Sam Adams pints, $3 Twisted Teas and $5 Miller Lite pitches during all tournament games.

- Thirteen, in the Marriott Downtown (1201 Market St.), is offering 13 different Sam Adams varieties for $3 each.

- The American Pub (1500 Market St., concourse level) has $1 Miller Lite drafts and food specials today and tomorrow from noon to 4 p.m.

- Not basketball-specific, but every weekday this month till 7 p.m., Memphis Taproom (2331 E. Cumberland St.) is taking 25 percent off all seasonal bottled beers

In 1992, the Winter Olympics took over Albertville, France, where René Kobeitri (above), owner of Rim Café (1172 S. Ninth St.), enjoyed his very first raclette party. This Sunday, as the Vancouver Olympics wrap up, Kobeitri is hosting his own right here in Philly. You supply the cheese; Rim will supply the grill, potatoes, charcuterie and hospitality, all free of charge. Raclette is an alpine dish traditionally served in France and Switzerland. A large hunk of cheese ("raclette" refers both to this dish and to the semi-hard cheese itself) is placed beneath a grill to melt, then the melted cheese is scraped off and served with various meat and vegetable accompaniments. “I hope to have a Raclette restaurant someday in Philadelphia," says Kobeitri. "One thing I love is that we have so many different types of cuisines here, so many European restaurants. But sometimes you are still missing something." You may have to wait a while before digging in – there's only one grill machine available for now, which can make enough for eight people at a time. The party starts at 8 p.m., and guests can purchase their raclette in the Italian Market from both Claudio's and De Bruno Brothers.

I remember my first raclette party, it was introduced to me by a French friend who took pride in his cooking. It was so much fun to make your own food and eat it hot. I think you can make about anything you want on the grill. I will love to see photos of the party. Certainly, it will be a good time. The French always know how to have a good time.

I just bought a raclette grill last week after being introducted to this grill, well actually the grill I bought was at Fante on the Italian Market and the grill is actually marble. I tried it and it was amazing. The marble gets nice and hot and you can cook anything on it. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys the joy of cooking and eating. I will be there Rene. Nothing like having a raclette party at a French Cafe.

Today marks the start of the 2010 Winter Olympics, and in true Philly fashion, five local bars have joined forces for a timely competition in the name of both charity and wanton drunkenness. The "Barstool Olympics," as it's being called, will involve the five watering holes named above — New Wave Café, South Philly Bar & Grill, *smiths, Swift Half and Kite & Key — duking it out to see who can sell the most $3 Molson bottles, as that prominent Canadian brewery calls 2010 host city Vancouver home. The competition, which runs through last call on Feb. 28, will end with (yes!) a medal ceremony for the gold, silver and bronze bars. Along the way, each spot will offer Canucktastic food specials, including Canadian bacon sliders (!), poutine and maple-glazed salmon salad.

A portion of the overall proceeds from the Barstool Olympics willl benefit the Fraternal Order of Police Survivors Fund, which provides support for the families of fallen officers.

Meal Ticket's very own Felicia D. stopped by Supper (926 South St., 215-592-8180) to have a look at chef/owner Mitch Prensky's DIY hot dog kit. For $25, you get four ready-to-cook house-made bacon-wrapped hot dogs, four house-baked buns, and toppings like BBQ onions, sauerkraut, beer mustard and house-cured bread and butter pickles. Ideal for a football game, no? (If only there was a big one coming up ... ) Prensky's also offering his birch beer-glazed wings, with black pepper/buttermilk dressing, for 12 bucks a pound. Place orders by noon this coming Friday, Feb. 5, to secure your kit for Sunday.

Meal Ticket just touched base with former Flyers captain Keith Primeau, who tells us he's opening a Bain's Deli location on the northeast corner of Broad and Lombard, in what was formerly a Chinese restaurant. The 35-seat space, which Primeau hopes to open in mid-January, will feature an expanded selection of hot foods and salads in addition to the base Bain's menu; they'll pour La Colombe coffee, too. The deli will be open breakfast through dinner, and will have flat screens and wireless access. "It'll be a good place to grab a bite or a cup of coffee and catch up on the day's news or sports a place to hang your hat," says Primeau.

Primeau, who played center for the Flyers from 1999 to 2006, is no stranger to the industry he owns a bar/restaurant in his native Ontario and runs concessions at Flyers Skate Zone in Pennsauken. He first hooked up with Bain's through a friend of his, the franchisee of the Bain's location in the Deptford Mall.

Campo's in Old City (214 Market St.) has put together quite the patriotic cheesesteak in honor of tomorrow's Army-Navy game at the Linc. The "Flying SUBmarine" ($8) is your choice of meat (chicken or steak), roasted tomatoes in blue cheese sauce, American cheese (USA! USA!) and crumbled blue corn tortilla freedom chips. It's too bad it's available this weekend only, as we wanted to eat this sandwich while blasting Van Halen's "Running with the Devil" on a hot pink boombox from inside a voting booth/riding in a tank wearing a sweet helmet and waving the stars and bars/gently petting an eagle on its majestic bald head.

Courtesy of Morimoto

Here's a quick shot of the cheesesteak Morimoto (723 Chestnut St.) started offering yesterday as a World Series special. It's Wagyu beef, "wit" soy-sauted onions, enoki mushrooms and grilled scallions on an Amoroso's roll, and it comes with a salad, fries and tonkatsu dipping sauce for $35. They've also just introduced Cracker Jack-flavored ice cream for $10.

In tangentially related news, here is an awesome pic of Morimoto pitching. The chef was actually a highly touted baseball prospect in his day before a serious injury precipitated a career change. Picture source: Marinerds, etc.

Like the one depicted in this here Distrito World Series flyer? We would like to wear one while we jump off a turnbuckle and leg-drop Jorge Posada's chinless face in our awesome Mexican wrestling-themed dreams.

As far as watching the Series at Jose Garces' Mexi spot (3945 Chestnut St.) goes, they're not offering any specific dealage for the games, but their usual specials $5 Cantina margaritas, $2 Tecates, $6 beer/tequila shot combos are pretty a-OK. They've got the $3-$10 Cantina menu going, too, with eats like guac, Mission-style quesadillas, tacos and esquites.

Chef Eric Paraskevas over at terra (243 S. Camac St.) has converted The Schmitter the deliciously bastardized cheesesteak featuring salami and special sauce, which originated at McNally's in Chestnut Hill and is a CitBank staple into teeny slider format for a World Series special. He's doing an order of three, plus a Left Hand Sawtooth Ale, for $11.95.

Meal Ticket dropped by the kitchen at P.Y.T. yesterday for a peek at what Tommy Up last week dubbed his World Fucking Champion (WFC) Burger. Chef Kevin Maskol walked us through the construction of the $25 beast (named, of course, after Chutley's timeless parade-day quotable), which'll be available as a special starting today at 5 p.m. and ending whenever the Phillies get around to shaming the Yankees into perpetual submission.

The Piazza burger joint just started sourcing game from Texas' Broken Arrow Ranch Maskol starts by forming an 8-ounce patty (P.Y.T.'s signature burger is 5 ounces) of the purveyor's free-range venison meat, which is blended with 20 percent beef fat to bump up juiciness. It's cooked medium-rare or medium (max), then topped with an ounce lobe of pan-seared foie gras, a shallot/cranberry relish and rutabaga straws. They melt a few generous slices of Memoire black truffle gouda on the top half of a brioche bun (not on the patty) before completing the plate with hand-cut spicy butternut squash chips. We got an opportunity to sample a couple bites of the burger, and it's balanced, if decadent you can most definitely taste the foie in each bite, and that truffled cheese is an umami-tastic buddy for the venison, lean and subtle by its very nature.

Since this is a Tommy Up production, there's a sprinkle of extra flash involved, beyond the built-in notoriety of being the most expensive burger in Philly right now (it edges out Jose Garces' Whiskey King alphaburger by $1 in the price column). Every WFC will be finished off with a sparkler bearing a Phillies pendant (not pictured). "Yes, a little over the top," Up admits. "But we're the World Fucking Champions, and this is the burger to go with it."
