Food and Web

Ever since the odd blackout at Phillyblog, there's been a void where that discussion forum's food and drink-specific section used to be. Sure, eGullet and CHOW are out there, but they're statewide in scope; there are several smaller neighborhood forums, but those are too border-specific. Why can't Philly the city have its very own rant and rave space?
Enter Foodadelphia, a new web community for local food fiends, that launched less than a week back.
Who's behind it? Matthew Scobell, a foodie and tech professional who lives in Rittenhouse. One thing you may notice about the site is that it's very clean and no-frills. This was on purpose. "I wanted to create a community where the software doesn't get in the way," says Scobell, who built the site with bbPress. "I appreciate minimalistic design and usability, so Foodadelphia doesn't have all the bells and whistles and sinks and it's non-invasive."
Scobell's also pushing for the community to be egalitarian. There's no rating system, and no pithy titles based on how many posts you've completed or how many threads you've started.
Of course, Foodadelphia's got its own Twitter and Facebook.
Thanks for the props, Drew!

Just added a bunch of new places to the directory of Philly-area bars, restaurants, breweries and food stops with Twitter accounts that I created back on March 9. Among the newcomers Dock Street, Noble American Cookery and Bebe's BBQ.
I'm gonna stick a link to that post on the sidebar on the right for easy access.
Any worthy additions that I overlooked? Let me know in the comments.
Hey now, just because ChefAMe doesn't have a physical location it doesn't make us any less of a restaurant! :)

FOOD'LEBRITIES merges the faces you know with the flavors you crave with awesomely ridiculous results.
Check out Cindy Lobster, The Chex Pistols and Goudacris on the frequently-updated site.
I thought about it, and I couldn't come up with single reason why I shouldn't post this. Cheers to you, DJ Steve Porter.
Steve Porter is playing at G on Fri may 29th! :)

Came across this dope and artery-threatening new food blog, eggs benny files, that follows one man's quest to locate the best Eggs Benedict in the city. So far, the author fairly sure it is local DJ Froz1, but hoping to confirm as much soon has hit up a number of well-loved brunch destinations, including many in Northern Liberties (Honey's, N. 3rd, Dos Segundos).
While we work on tracking more details on this adventure down, let's come up with some more destinations for our dude. One of my favorite bennys? Ants Pants, of course, where they smother airy brioche with eggs, spinach, ham and tomato. Leave your pitch in the comments.
Cafe Estelle does the trad benny with ham, as well as renamed modifications like Eggs Jose. The Belgian Cafe does eggs benny on Belgian Waffles. I mean, really. Carmen's Country Kitchen does eggs benny with crazy additions like St. Peter's fish or pomegranate seeds (or both) sometimes. Plus, there is penis ephemera everywhere. No joke.
You should check out our new brunch as well as our "French" take on eggs benny. Poached eggs, grilled smoked ham, perfect hollandaise sauce over puff pastry squares. Perfect.
The other day Du Jour had eggs benny with skirt steak and bacon drippings in the hollandaise. Did not get to try but sounded awesome.
Thanks for the publicity! Any suggestions for brunch/bennys are appreciated!
The Phillies "P" is the coolest thing about the Egg's Benny Files. What's next? The Chicken Sandy Chronicles??

I wish I had thought to hit up The Beer Mapping Project on my recent trip to L.A. I probably would've drank way less Tecate.
The site, which relies on Google Map's free application programming interface (API) to acquire geocodes for brewpubs, breweries, beer bars, six-pack stores and homebrew shops, is a hell of a tool when pining for good suds in unfamiliar territory.
There are somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 American and Canadian cities featured currently; updates are largely user-driven, so be sure to tip. Philly's map (above and here) is stinking with color-coded key points, of course.

Figured it would be fun to compile a list of all the Philly-area restaurants, bars, breweries, venues, etc. that have Twitter accounts. Some are updated more judiciously than others, but it's definitely worth checking up on many of the pages West Philly's New Delhi, for example, updates with daily buffet items, while Pumpkin Market Tweets up new product arrivals and offers discounts to its followers.
Did we miss anyone? Let us know in the comments and we'll add them.
While we're on the topic, you should follow Meal Ticket on Twitter!
This list (after the jump) will be updated constantly. Strikethrough denotes an inactive or deleted account.

[...] Breaking news wire, place to catch up with your friends, celebrity tracker, whatever you might call it, Twitter’s user base and mainstream popularity is exploding. Some people have ragged on the microblogging service, questioning its longevity and overall usefulness due to an overload of mundane tweets about users’ lives. On the flip side, businesses are making good use of Twitter by creating a personality for their brands and connecting with new customers they would have never reached before. Street vendors have become particularly enamored with the usefulness of Twitter because of its cost: free. CNET News interviewed the incredibly popular Dessert Truck (@dessertruck) in New York as well as Kogi BBQ (@kogibbq) in Los Angeles about the great reception they’ve received from customers who found them on Twitter. The mobile eateries have found many uses of the service including broadcasting menu changes, promotions and their exact location which sometimes changes several times a day. Serious Eats has compiled a national list of street vendors with Twitter accounts. Also, check out Philadelphia restaurants that tweet on MealTicket. [...]
