Every so often, we pop a little Meal Ticket into the print edition of City Paper. For our latest MT supplement, we put together two fun little pieces for y'all: - In his primi primer, Adam Erace rounds up some unusual pasta shapes being twisted, pulled and pinched in Philly kitchens. Check it out to find out what the chefs at Mémé, Paradiso, Garces Trading Co., Modo Mio and other spots are up to. - Philly's uptick of cocktail destinations is reason alone to raise a glass — but what if you don't know what's in that glass to begin with? We chat with bartenders at some of our favorite joints — The Franklin, Noble and Oyster House, just to name a few — to get the lowdown on some of the more obscure spirits finding their way into seriouscocktails around town.

- Adam Erace is rather wowed by his meals at Barbuzzo, and our critic feels quite strongly that Marcie Turney and Valerie Safran's hit spot is the best new restaurant in Philly. Do you agree? Regardless, pick us up an order of those meatballs for dinner, cool? - We write up Recipes Every Man Should Know, a handy-dandy pocket cooking guide from Philly's Quirk Books. - Lots of food/drink events in the coming days, as broken down by Rachel Burgos in What's Cooking: Peep info on a Sixpoint draft takeover at City Tap House, P&K's country night, a historical dining seminar and more. - Feeding Frenzy has details on new spots like Village Belle, Jet Wine Bar and Flying Saucer Café. - We'll elaborate further tomorrow, but for now peep online versions of the two pieces that appear in our latest Meal Ticket Print Supplement: Adam Erace's rundown of peculiar pasta shapes taking over Philly, and an informative rundown of the not-so-common spirits employed by our city's best cocktail makers.

- We get our nacatamal on at El Gallo Pinto, a little South Philly corner grocery that also happens to put out homey and delicious Central American cooking. Visit over the weekend for the soups, and visit any other day for everything else. - Adam Erace visits the recently renovated Mustard Greens, which has been going strong for nearly 20 years just off South, and finds that the Cantonese-style cooking is just as tasty and relevant as ever. - Rachel Burgos runs down a bunch of great food/drink events for the coming week in What's Cooking, including a sweet-sounding ragtime party at Noble and this weekend's 10th annual Reading Terminal Market harvest festival. - New locations for Café L'Aube and Good Karma are but a few of the openings detailed in the latest edition of Feeding Frenzy. - We'll post more about this later, but a huge congrats to The Food Trust for winning a City Paper Big Vision Award.

- Adam Erace explores the options at Adsum, where chef Matthew Levin is giving a big F.U. to fine dining. He digs the chef'sf original, accessible menu, peppered with creative strokes like popcorn puree, freeze-dried hickory smoke and Kool Aid-pickled watermelon. - New York Times columnist Mark Bittman has released The Food Matters Cookbook, a collection of 500 recipes designed around the Minimalist's eat-mostly-plants dietary plan. If you can get over your petty food grudges, you'll find that's it's a rather invaluable resource. - Rachel Burgos has plenty of food-event info for you in What's Cooking — check details on SPTR's upcoming Farmhouse Ale dinner, word on Eagles specials at Percy Street and more. - JG Domestic, Biba and Blackbird are three of the openings outlined in the latest edition of Feeding Frenzy.

- OK, so the liquid nitrogen gelato (above) is definitely a show, but Adam Erace discovers that there's a quite a lot to like at The Piazza's Italian restaurant Apollinare. Just one thing: Where are all the customers? - Philadelphia's chefs are a bunch of tweeting fools. Here's a quickie roundup of some of our favorite status-updating local cooks, where to find them and samples of their finest 140-character-or-less work. - In What's Cooking, Rachel Burgos breaks down the impending sausagefest at Standard Tap, a duo of homage-to-Burgundy dinners at Bistrot La Minette, some Oktoberfest festivities and more. - Details on new Fishtown café The Lola Bean, a new owner for Reading Terminal's Flying Monkey, cupcakes, Lebanese food, hotel restaurants, Stephen Starr Brit-pubs and so forth in Feeding Frenzy.

- Adam Erace visits the very swanky Tweed, where he's mostly impressed by chef David Cunningham's hyper-local cooking style at the "American eatery named for the cloth favored by English professors and librarian watchers everywhere." Look at that house-cured salmon trio! Bella. (Can you believe we made it through this entire blurb without dropping a single ill-conceived Top Gun homage?) - We review Caz Hildebrand and Jacob Kenedy's The Geometry of Pasta, an exhaustive A-to-Z cookbook that covers everything you ever needed to know about Italy's chief specialty. What makes it different? Hildebrand, a noted graphic designer, celebrates the many beautiful shapes that occur in pastacraft in the form of hypnotic, Op Art-style black-and-white illustrations. London-based chef Kenedy's recipes are fun and easy to follow, too. Rad. - What's Cooking? There's some good stuff coming up, including the launch of Linvilla Orchards' Pumpkinland (it's fall?!), the kick-off of Restaurant Week, next week's SNAP cocktail mix-off (we're judging!) and a Food Trust happy hour at SPTR.

- Adam Erace forges his way through deep South Philly — "Cannoli Alley," if you will — and lands a seat at Sky Café, a family-run Indonesian eatery at 15th and Ritner. After multiple visits he's left thoroughly impressed by chef Lily Tjia's "startlingly complex" soups and noodle dishes. - It's been more than 20 years since CP staff writer Isaiah Thompson left the heavily Mexican neighborhood of Pilsen in his hometown of Chicago, but he's never forgotten the fresh-pressed tortillas. Lucky for him, then, that he's found the Italian Market's Tortilleria y San Roman, where the Rivera family cranks out calentitas just for Philly. - What's Cooking is stuffed with food/drink picks for those of us staying in Philly over the long Labor Day Weekend. Oyster House, Johnny Brenda's, Supper and several other spots have special stuff going on, so take advantage. - Details on three new openings — Barbuzzo, Berry Sweet and PBandU — in Feeding Frenzy.
