- Squeamish be warned: Here the New York Times compiles a short-yet-effective piece on 13 chefs and their most memorable injuries on the job. I may never chop again. - Kitchenist is a Canadian based in London whose recipes look mad tasty, and healthy too. I love her free-flowing ideas on what to do with her farmers market finds while celebrating her Thanksgiving away from home. I've been perusing her recipes and already have a mental list of what I'm going to make with my sprouts and squash. - Table Matters shares a tip on seasonal white wines, entitling their piece "planet of the grapes." I'm not clever enough to come up with a better name than that. Click, read, buy, drink, toast. - Love TV, food and trivia? Me too. Mental Floss compiled a quick quiz to see how well you know your celebrity chefs and their respective restaurants. Apples & Cheese, Please gives a delicious in depth run down on Montgomery County's own Baumans Apple Butter company. Spoiler alert: They don't just make apple butter. Fall, I welcome you with a trip to Baumans and a voracious appetite Admit it: Given the opportunity to hang out with Alton Brown, you sooo would. Between Good Eats and Iron Chef America, he is a busy dude. Serious Eats shares a short but sweet interview with the man himself, asking all the hard-hitting questions like, "Whats for lunch?" I am the farthest thing from a vegetarian, but I would most definitely crush some lemongrass-and-chili flavored tofu. Veggiecurious shares their recent tofu loves, including flavors and locations to purchase. I'm already thinking of ways to make tofu. Upon Reading the headline "Spaghetti Tacos" I was sure this was another NY Times article about chefs who smoke weed. It is actually about an off-joke from a kids show that turned into a phenomenon with the under-5-foot crowd. Be warned- this is a long two page article about iCarly & spaghetti tacos, written rather seriously. SlashFood shares the chef-chosen hottest food trends of 2010. What do you think? Agree or disagree with their choices? Do you also have that quote from Zoolander stuck in your head "______, it's so hot right now?"

- Just in time for Halloween, BoingBoing (via MakeProjects) shares a how-to-make guide for a scary-ass meat head. No, not a 'roided out gym rat, but a literal head, made out of meat. (Red Jell-O is also involved.) It's almost guaranteed to creep out any trick-or-treaters trying to doublefist some candy. - Speaking of scary things, what better way to greet houseguests than stabbing their jacket to your wall? Courtesy of Geekologie, these knife coat hooks are a surefire way to ensure your visitors leave on time. They are sure to be a hit. No, a stab! A slice? Ah, I could go on for days. - I know I'm not the only burger fan who enjoys the occasional veggie patty. Thankfully, Burgatory explains his recent absence (vegetarian hiatus, phew! I can work with that) and shares this mad tasty-looking recipe for a black bean burger with cilantro-lime mayo. - PhillyFoodie gives us a run down of her Greensgrow CSA cops from weeks 15 and 17, including helpful hints on whats delicious at the moment, and some questions for readers. Also, the picture just makes me really happy. - Love grilled corn but don't have a grill? I'm in the same boat damn you, tiny apartment-ed city life! JK, love you Philly. - I feel like the brand-new chicken and waffle burger at P.Y.T. came straight from a wonderful dream I once had. Phoodie.info shares a picture and all the juicy, delicious details. P.S. It has bacon on it. SAYIN'! - I will put my jealousies aside and wish Bathtub Brewery an awesome trip to Denver for the Great American Beer Festival. - A Rarer Borealis takes her cute little vegetarian self out of NYC and into the Iowa State Fair and shares with us her food findings. Included are fried goods, various jerkies, foods on sticks ... and strange combinations of the three. It shines a light onto the unknown traditions of the Midwest through their food. Also included is a vintage MST3K video. Nerds rejoice! - I Am Beer Wise gives us the rundown on the collaboration between One Village Coffee and Victory Brewing to create Victory Village Ale at a Plymouth Meeting Whole Foods. Coffee and beer are a tasty combo in my book, and IABW gives a much more thorough and helpful description, along with where you can find the brew. I'm still kind of stuck on the fact that Whole Foods in the 'burbs have pubs attached to them. Yo Philly let's get on that, hmm? - Bitters are not normally in my realm of tasty things. I usually equate them with old-timey cocktails or fancy fops stuck in the Victorian era. But Burning Pasta makes a great pro-bitters argument, explaining how it's not my personal fault, but my age's, that I'm uninterested. He also shares a recipe on how to make your own bitters at home, and includes his own cocktail featuring peaches. - In perfect timing for the impending fall season, Mac and Cheese shares her love of, and a recipe for, squash casserole. It is a southern food staple, and though I've never made it, her photos and unabashed love for it are contagious. I'd like to try to impress some veg friends by whipping this up in the near future. - Psssst ... hey MoMa ... I know you guys are really cool and cutting-edge and I love your museum/exhibits/lectures/store, and it sort of kills me to say this, but apparently no one told you this "Banana Bunker" is err... extremely phallic. And kind of totally unnecessary. Fifteen-year-old me is giggling super-duper hard right now. LOL, I wrote "hard." - HBO has a show called Hard Knocks about NFL training camp. In this clip, you get to see NY Jets coach Rex Ryan truly inspire his team, and then end his pearls of wisdom in a manner Meal Ticket truly appreciates. PLEASE NOTE Coach's language in the video is quite colorful (very NSFW).

has anyone linked through to the bitters recipe?  First of all, that is NOT how you make bitters and will surely taste like ass.  Secondly, would you trust ANYONE who ruined a delicious bourbon with peaches and brown sugar??  Lastly, what's with the song?

Bitters are an excellent thing to keep in the house. Biting on a lemon wedge with bitters on it is an instant hiccup cure!

- I personally want to thank Phoodie.info for showing me the way of the Album Taco. The site involves the Photoshopping both crude and flawless of tacos into famous album covers. Perusing the site has been endlessly entertaining, laugh-out-loud, :why didn't I ever think of that?", delicious, good fun. Gracias, amigos. Next taco is on me. - Do you know about Sketch Jobs' restau-RANT section? It's a place for food industry workers to vent the frustrations, horror stories and hilarious incidents that take place in restaurants and kitchens all around the city. It's anonymous, so don't get too nervous if you're one of the notoriously crap-tastic customers they're talking about. - RealSimpleFood is now on Twitter! They pick a new ingredient daily and spend the day tweeting recipes, how to pick whatever the item may be, what to do with leftovers, and anything else you could wonder ... all in 140 characters or less. I already made one of their #pasta recipes and it was great. - You can read about She Who Eats' summer in Nagano, but for me, viewing her Flickr album, titled "As summer glides away," is the real treat. Chock-full of photos of locally grown fruits and veggies, it's a gorgeous peek into one woman's annual trip to visit family, and a colorful glimpse into a part of Japan that I hope to one day visit. - What can't he do? Grub Street Philly shares this video of chef Masaharu Morimoto singing karaoke and dancing. Maybe next up he'll be spotted at Ray's Happy Birthday Bar on a Friday, belting out "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves"? One can only hope.

Since my birthday is a few days away, I figured I would share an entry that I like hint hint hint. Here is the original shirt design and the gorgeously recreated cake. - Phrugal Philly has compiled a list of places in the city that have PBC's Kenzinger for $3 or under. I feel like I should shake their hand and/or high-five them and definitely buy them a ($3) beer. Thanks for the tips, guys! - The Durian Fruit Challenge looks difficult and disgusting. Thankfully for us readers at home, Fidel Gastro provides play-by-plays, pictures and video of the nauseating event vivid enough for me never to want to try the damn things. Props to the competitors you are much braver than I. Some great news for New Orleans: tourism spending, the number of restaurants, and available jobs are all on the rise. This CNN video and article explain how the food industry is helping to boost the economy. As a frequent visitor and a frequent eater, I can honestly say some of the best eats I've ever had in my life have been in NOLA. - If you like your NYC bagels, be warned the taxman cometh. According to SlashFood, New York higher-ups know the power their delicious, iconic breakfast treats hold, and want to tax them. The state has yet to formally introduce this, but I say why wait? Let's protest, Boston Tea Bagel Party-style, to show them how much we like things the way they are. Who is with me?! Grin & Beer It takes advantage of this fall like weather we're having by rating Rogues Hazelnut Brown Nectar Ale. Not sure if it's all of her back-to-school nostalgia or her excellent descriptions, but I wanna try this beer stat.

- Thank goodness for the Internet I know I can't be the only one who's ever wondered how to make my veggies look more like classic video game power-ups. Thankfully, AnnaTheRed's Flickr shows you, step by step, how to turn a simple radish into a Mario Brothers-style mushroom. Here we gooo! - I've always wondered about what certain bands eat while on tour, especially ones with dietary restraints. Scottish band Mogwai has read my mind and created a Twitter account based solely on what they eat, I'm into it. - Philadelphia Beer Enthusiast shares some awesome news regarding Dock Street Brewing Co.'s plans to brew its third batch of sorghum-based Sudan Grass Ale, which is naturally gluten-free. The beer will be "slightly tart and fruity in flavor; reminiscent of a cider or mead." - As a South Philadelphian and a food lover, I am very interested in the South Philly Food Co-op. I have participated in their many meetings and events, all in the hopes of making this dream a reality. Are you a "friend" of theirs on Facebook yet? I promise you they don't play Farmville and won't "like" everything you post. - Phoodie makes me feel all old by pointing out that those of us who recall wild Taco Tuesdays at Tattooed Mom's are, well, old. Looks Like Barbarella, aka the upstairs at the Barbary, is taking over for all you crazy taco-lovin' kids north of Market Street. FYI, I participate in Taco Tuesdays by making them in the comfort of my AC'd home. Suck it, youngins!

- Real Simple shares 22 recipes for three-ingredient meals, including appetizers, entrées and desserts. They are so easy you can't not try at least one. This minted watermelon salad sounds absolutely perfect for a balmy August. - No, this labyrinthine coffee saucer has nothing to do with David Bowie's fantastic feathered hair, but it does have to do with an entertaining game to play while finishing your daily cup of coffee. This Erdem Selek saucer comes shaped like maze; spill a little coffee and it turns a faux-pas into a great way to kill some time. - For all those Jose Garces fans out there who also appreciate a good graph, Foobooz shares their version tracking all Garces projects to date, including ones that are still in the works. - Dogfish Head brewery has a blog, titled BlogFish. Awesome, right? Equally awesome are their updates regarding brew batches, tours and other goings-on over in Delaware. On the sad front, their most recent batch of 120 Minute IPA will be delayed, but if you read why you will totally understand. - Like Nicole Franzen of La Buena Vida, I too am a little nervous about making artichokes. But these stunning photos and step-by-step instructions are definitely making me want to give it a fair try, especially since they're pan-fried and paired with lemon brown butter. - Do you like pickled spicy beans? Do you need 32 ounces of them? I sure do and I sure did, so I got a gigantic jar of them shipped from Louisiana. I might be a little crazy. Not only are these little gems of goodness the perfect Bloody Mary garnish, but they are a great snack, too. Especially if you currently have 32 ounces of them sitting in your fridge.

Last year, I left my pole beans growing in my yard on the vine a little too long and they got a little long in the tooth (and the shell was really tough).  I ended up pickling them and I still have some in the fridge.  A nice tangy and spice stick of pickled bean is the tits.

Its going to be a new annual tradition for me, The last harvest of pole beans gets pickled.

Just sayin'. - DoughGirl titled this post "Oops," but I would've called it "woah!" I see a gorgeous photo essay of her eating adventures, including this bad-ass picture of a grilled octopus dish she made. Yo DoughGirl, right on! - Oh, Madame Fromage, what can't you do? Here, she shares 12 ways to jazz up curds, including this perfectly in-season arugula-wrapped and cherry tomato-topped rendition. - Here is an awesome video of a baby eating a watermelon from the inside. Admit it, you would absolutely do the same if you could.
