- Brad Podray, the poet behind the Han Dynasty rap, has penned yet another ode; this time, he's professing his love to Federal Donuts. Podray loves FedNuts so much that he says he would lick [chili garlic glaze] off a chainsaw that's on in front of [his] mom." Yo, that is some serious dedication right there.

- Since 2007, high levels of iodine have been found in water treatment facilities in the Philadelphia area. Experts have been trying to figure out what's causing the spike and have crossed the most likely possible sources, like nuclear power plants or large medical centers, off of their list. That leaves who? Thyroid patients, who "sweat or urinate iodine that is not absorbed by their bodies after they take it for treatment." Suggestions from local hospitals on how to minimize iodine exposure to water include cleaning showers and toilet seats after use and having separate sets of silverware. The issue is serious, but last I checked, thyroid patients weren't lepers.

Love us some anonymous food tweeters here at Meal Ticket, and this one's a new fave: The Sorry Thomas Keller account (@SryThomasKeller), comprising the honest admissions of a cook working in a kitchen whose standards might appall the French Laundry legend. Mission statement: "These tweets are an open apology to Thomas Keller and every other great chef out there. We could be like you all, but thats a lot of work."

Shank's Original is feeling sentimental. In honor of their 50th anniversary, they are planning on showing a little Phillies love come Monday, April 9, the day of the Phightins' home opner. The first 100 customers who show up at Shank's Pier 40 (Columbus and Christian) wearing Phillies gear can order any sandwich off the menu and pay just one dollar. They’ve more than 20 sandwiches to choose from, including their classic roast pork and a pretty fierce cheesesteak.

It's about that time, kids, when we begin inundating you with fresh menus greened with fiddleheads and asparagus and spring garlic and rhubarb and ramps. Chadd Jenkins of Little Fish (746 S. Sixth St.) just dropped his new bill of fare last week. What are we excited to try? Scallops with foe and rhubarb. Lobster with avocado, tangerine and polenta. Skate with mussels, razor clams and Swiss chard. Check out a snapshot of the newly chalked blackboard menu after the jump. They're also noting the recent delivery of outdoor furniture for the BYOB's sidewalk. Jerked cobia al fresco? We're so there.

It's been 16 months since the vivacious Joan Verratti knocked on our, door toting a distilling license (the first female in the country to do so since Prohibition, allegedly) and a Crown Royal bottle filled with limoncello. Now, she and partner Tom Cavaliere are untangling the very last of the red tape required to launch their Pollyodd line of preservative-free 'cellos, a process that's taken the couple more than three years.

Nom Nom Ramen (20 S. 18th St.), which we featured in our March 15 cover story ahead of its March 20 rollout, has been easing its way in Philly noodledom with limited dinner services. As of this week they're grooving along nicely, slinging soups from 5 to 8 — except tonight, actually, as owner Alan Su is currently trekking up to New York to scoop up an emergency supply of his custom-built noodles from Ramen Lab, a subsidiary of the Sun brand. He'll be back in action tomorrow, and in the coming weeks, they'll stroll into a schedule of 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. weeknights and 11 to 11 Fridays and Saurdays, with the possibility of preventative-hangover late-night service in the near future.

On April 4 and 5, 10 local restaurants are teaming up with Young Friends of Team Jamaica, a support group helping young people from Caribbean nations attend and participate in the very-big-deal Penn Relays. With assistance from sponsors and diners, the Team Jamaica Bickle group (bickle = food) is able to fly more than 500 student athletes from countries like Trinidad, Jamaica, the Bahamas and Grenada to Philly to compete in the relays; the funds also cover costs like accommodations, meals and transportation.

Each spot participant in Caribbean Restaurant Nights will feature special island-inspired dishes (Gigi in Old City is doing an entire food relaunch, featuring jerk chicken and lime/beer-marinated ribeye, for example) and will donate 10 to 15 percent of their nightly gross food and alcohol sales to the aspiring runners. See who’s participating after the jump.

Stephen Starr's seasonal Squareburger stand (S-words S-words S-words!) opened to the public today at noon. You can find the operating schedule of Franklin Square, home of the burger/fry/Cake Shake joint that'll soon have some competition from Center City's Shake Shack, after the jump. (SquareBurger opens at 11 a.m. and closes one hour ahead of the Franklin closing unless otherwise noted.)

- Adam Erace's Afro-Francais lingual game is not that strong, but he was still able to get it in at Le Bercail, a small West Philly eatery specializing in food from the West African nations formerly controlled by France. Plenty of flavor to be had here, whether it's yassa-smothered whole fish or house-brewed hibiscus punch.

- In Feeding Frenzy: Local 44's new bottle shop, Insomnia Cookies for Center City, ramen, late-night hot dogs and a new vegan event space on the way.

- In What's Cooking: Cheu Noodle is popping up, more Philly on Kitchen Nightmares, an all-star duck dinner at Bistrot La Minette and more.

- In News: Theresa Everline reports on how Philly farmers markets are attempting to become more accessible for those who in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

The other day, I got a latte to go from Le Pain Quotidien (801 Walnut St.). Yeah yeah, I was just there thet other weekend, but I had to make another trip to Jeweler's Row SHUT UP. When the disinterested barista set it down in front of me, a little T-shaped orange sticker covered the sippy spout. Hmm. This was the first time I'd seen such an accessory to the conventional travel coffee cup.
