Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams accepted at least $9,466.99 in campaign contributions from indicted political operative John D. McDaniel, according to Board of Ethics records. A former campaign manager for Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown with ties to Laborers Local 322, a Philadelphia-based construction union, McDaniel was charged with wire fraud by federal attorneys last week after it was revealed that he had conducted and paid himself for political activity while employed by the City of Philadelphia. Political work by municipal employees is prohibited under the city charter.

The donations, which span a two-year period leading up to and continuing after Williams' election in 2009, came both from associated PACs and McDaniel directly.

During that time, McDaniel personally contributed $5,581.86 to Williams' two political committees, the Committee to Elect Seth Williams and Friends of Seth Williams. While that amount was more than he personally donated to any other single politician, McDaniel also used Progressive Agenda, a union-funded PAC he controlled, to donate an additional $3,885.13 to Williams.

Ordinarily, these donations would exceed the legal limit for individual campaign contributions in Philadelphia elections.  However, then-candidate Dan McCaffery infamously triggered the "millionaire's provision" in that DA race, doubling contribution caps.

Nevertheless, the sum makes McDaniel one of Williams' top donors. Williams ran on a platform of becoming more involved in local political corruption cases, although these donations would have undoubtedly forced his recusal in prosecuting McDaniel, had federal authorities not intervened.

I am starting to think that DA Williams is as corrupt as the rest of our "POLITICAL CLASS" here in the city. He does not appear to even want to look at his friend, city councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown who agreed with the ethics board on the laws she broke. Williams are you a friend to the citizens or just another crony politician?
